A

│ I watched, recently, a television talk show a
A
C
bout racism. The big question│
│ asked was: "Is racism worse or less with the
A
C
next generation?" I'm not │
│ certain what their opinions ended up being.
A
C
I heard many people, black and│
│ white both call each other names with racial
A
C
slurs. I heard the name of │
│ 'honky' and 'nigger' used by both. But this
A
C
brought to mind one question │
│ I have. That question is this: What differe
A
C
nce does it make? I mean, in │
│ the long run, what difference does it make if
A
C
someone is black, white or │
│ yellow? Truth is, there is only one superior
A
C
being (from my religious │
│ prospective anyway) and that is God. Sportin
A
C
g an attitude about one race │
│ or another is wasted energy. This advances n
A
C
o one. It helps no one. It │
│ convinces no one. Separation of individuals
A
C
reduces us all. It places │
│ limitations on everyone in a world. The ener
A
C
gy spent by some people hating│
│ someone else, whether it be because that othe
A
C
r person is black, white, │
│ oriental, homosexual, Jewish, or what have yo
A
C
u, is energy that could be │
│ better spent in trying to advance the human r
A
C
ace as a whole. │
│ Perhaps I'm naive. I don't know. But what i
A
C
s the point? Hating anyone │
│ does more harm to the individual who holds th
A
C
e hate than it does the person│
│ they hate. Like a spreading cancer that hatr
A

│ effecting everything they do and think. Lowe

A
C
│
│ Hey, dislike of someone you know is one thing
A
C
. Being prejudice of someone │
│ you know is another. These two actions can b
A
C
e justified simply because of │
│ the knowing of that individual. But to apply
A
C
that same prejudice and dis- │
│ like to a whole race is not only wrong but st
A
C
upid. │
│ There is no one superior here! Hey, you will
A
C
all die! You will all face │
│ certain things in life. Age, illness, taxes,
A
C
etc. │
│ I don't understand how or why someone could h
A
C
ate another person simply be- │
│ cause of their color. I understand hating so
A
C
meone because of their actions│
│ or crime, but because of their color, this is
A
C
stupid. │
│ Perhaps part of the problem is the over-use o
A
C
f the term "racist." Many │
│ people will call others racist when in fact i
A
C
t has nothing to do with race.│
│ When this happens it demoralizes and belittle
A
C
s the actual acts of racism. │
│ In a great many of the cases it is not racism
A
C
but power struggles. A shift│
│ in power from one person to another.
A
C
│
│ But regardless of what is really happening, h
A
C
ating someone because of their│
│ color of skin, religious beliefs, or politica
A

l position is cultivation of │

│
A
C
│
│ The Department of Justice today released the
A
C
report of the Office of │
│ Professional Responsibility, a few hours aft
A
C
er providing me with a copy, │
│ and with no opportunity for me to respond to
A
C
point out the numerous │
│ errors in fact and mistaken conclusions it c

ontains. This process has │
│ been conducted without the barest elements o
A

f fairness, and marked by │
│ press leaks calculated to defame me.
A
C
│
│
A
C
│
│ Without benefit of time to do a point-by-poi
A
C
nt analysis, however, I will │
│ answer the report in broad detail.
A
C
│
│
A
C
│
│ First, the report says I did not pay taxes f
A
C
or use of a government │
│ vehicle. The armor plated bureau car is pro
A
C
vided for my security, and │
│ the bureau security personnel insist that it
A
C
be used. Mr. Barr has │
│ agreed with OPR that I should pay taxes for
A
C
office-to-home travel in the │
│ armored vehicle. If it is true that the exe
A
C
mption was not warranted, │
│ then I will of course pay the taxes.
A
C
│
│
A
C
│
│ Second, the report says there were trips in
A

which I used the government │

A

Whenever I travel by plane │

he bureau's procedures for │
│ air travel. I will continue to reimburse th

e government for personal │
│ travel.
A
C
│
│
A
C
│
│ Third, the report says a fence installed at
A
C
my house was a privacy fence │
│ and not a security fence. The account given
A
C
in the report, I am told, is │
│ lavish with details that were never before b

have perfect security; I am │

A

│
│
A

│
│ Fourth, there is the charge that I have not

to a subject matter that was │

A

│
A

│
│ One more observation is in order. I am advi

│ uncritically, the statements of a man whom I
A

removed as head of my │

│ For the OPR report to give his statements su

about his conduct. │
│
A

│
│ As a lawyer, judge and government servant, I

have lived a life of respect │
