│ * To add insult to injury: This phrase means
A
C
to add scorn to an injury │

A
C
this phrase first appeared in │
│ Latin: iniuriae qui addideris contumeliam,
A
C
which means "injury added to │

A

fifth book of Roman fables the│

│
│ * To stick to one's guns: to remain despite o

bstacles, persevere. Samuel │
│ Warren wrote this phrase for the first time
A
C
in literature in 1839. The │
│ novel was Ten Thousand A Year. Its origin
A
C
stems from the military. │
│ * Hocus-Pocus: to be deceived or flim-flamme

│ print in 1656 when Thomas Ady used it in "A

Candle In the Dark." Though │
│ the spelling was quite different then. It

was hokos pokos, not hocus │

│ * To make a mountain out of a molehill: Maki

A
C
was first used by a Greek │
│ writer, Lucian in 1258(? year uncertain).
A

It came back to usage again in│

A

│
│ Joyce and the kids left the house making thei

│ They talked about nothing in particular as th

Joyce looked up towards │

│

│ Up in the serenity of the mountains, Debbie

A

│
│ "Relax, Hymie," Debbie said. "I was just won

│
