  15.   Setting a drive state to failed</h1>

  17. <p>You can use this action only on a physical drive that is part of a disk group.
  18.   If a physical drive is part of a disk group, you must change the drive state to
  19.   failed before removing the drive from the %SERVER% or enclosure. Doing so eliminates
  20.   the risk of losing data. After you replace the physical drive, you can rebuild
  21.   the affected disk group. </p>
  22. <p>This action is useful in situations such as the following: </p>
  23. <ul>
  24.   <li>You want to replace a physical drive that is marked with a <a href="gpfa.htm">S.M.A.R.T.</a>.

  28.   <li>You want to replace a physical drive that is unwarranted.<br>

  37.          <p>If you do <b>not</b> change an optimal physical drive state to failed
  38.           before removing the drive from the %SERVER% or enclosure, you risk losing
  39.           data or damaging the physical drive.</p>
  40.       <li>You cannot use this action on a physical drive undergoing a rebuild
  41.         operation.<br>
  42.         <br>
  43.       <li>(For <b>non</b>-RAID level-x0 logical drives) If you choose to use this
  44.         action and a logical drive is:
  45.         <ul>
  46.           <li>In a <a href="gcrt.htm">degraded</a> state, the logical drive state
  47.             <b>will</b> change to <a href="gofl.htm">failed</a>. </li>
  48.           <li>RAID level-0 and in an optimal state, the logical drive <b>will</b>
  49.             change to failed.</li>
  50.           <li>Not RAID level-0 and in an optimal state, the logical drive state <b>will</b>
  51.             change to degraded.<br>

  54.       <li>(For RAID level-x0 logical drives) If you choose to use this action
  55.         and a logical drive is in a degraded state, <a href="ccrtx0.htm">the logical
  56.         drive state <b>might</b> change to failed</a>. </li>

  70.     drive that contains this physical drive is already failed, the Adaptec Storage Manager
  71.     does not display this warning because the data is already corrupt.

  75.   <li>Click <b>Yes</b>. The Adaptec Storage Manager sets the drive status to <a href="gddd.htm">failed</a>.
