  1. The Difference between Community Place Browser Helper and Plug-in
  2.  
  3. Though the system requirements for using the Community Place Browser (Netscape Plug-in)
  4. are the same as for the Community Place Browser (helper application), the operation of the
  5. Plug-in differs in the following respects:
  6.  
  7. 1.A pop-up menu appears when you press your mouse right button inside the browser
  8. window. 
  9. 2.You can show and hide the tool bar and navigation bar by selecting the "Options" menu. 
  10. 3.The CP Plug-in does not have "Open File", "Open Url", and "Exit" menu options. Please
  11. use Netscape Navigator's menu option counterparts listed on the File pulldown menu. 
  12. 4.The CP Plug-in does not have "Back", "Forward", and "Reload" buttons and menu
  13. options. Please use Netscape Navigator's menu option counterparts instead. 
  14. 5.The CP Plug-in does not have a menu option to show the Java console. Please use
  15. Netscape Navigator's counterpart listed on the Options pulldown menu. 
  16. 6.You can jump or float by pressing your TAB key instead of the ESC key. 
  17. 7.The Java API Vscp.goFromAvtroomToOriginalWorld() method is ignored. 
  18. 8.When installing the CP Plug-in, the installer overwrites your autoexec.bat file. (Note that
  19. you will be prompted to accept this change before it occurs.) 
  20. 9.Due to Netscape Navigator's security management, you cannot access local files or
  21. network nodes other than the host system for the VRML file from your Java scripts
  22. attached to VRML worlds.

  25. Multi-User Support in the Community Place Plug-in 
  26.  
  27. Note that local file i/o capability is NOT required in order to support multi-user interaction or
  28. shared behavior scripting (using the vscp Java API extensions). The Community Place plug-in
  29.  version does not use Java to implement multi-user communication. Therefore, this version
  30.  supports all the multi-user worlds posted on the Gallery page, and will be restricted only if the
  31.  world author attempts via a Java script to communicate with a network server other than the
  32.  original wrl file host or write to your local file system. These are the same restrictions Netscape
  33.  Navigator places upon any Java program which operates under Navigator's control (as in the
  34.  case of a plug-in).

  39. The VRML 2.0 Community Place Browser version1.1 Netscape plug-in evaluation version is
  40. available for free download with the following options.

  42. The Community Place Browser plug-in available on this CD is for use if you have never previously
  43. installed a version of the Community Place VRML 2.0 Browser. This option includes
  44. the Direct-X sound support package from Microsoft which allows you to use MOD
  45. format sound files in VRML 2.0 worlds.

  48. Installing the Community Place VRML 2.0 Browser Plug-In

  50. Double-click the execute file CPN11B2X.EXE
  51. You will be prompted to decompress the install program. 
  52. When decompression is complete, the install program will begin prompting you for an
  53. install directory name and other information. We recommend that you accept the default
  54. options presented by the installer. 
  55. Once installation has completed, you must accept changes to your autoexec.bat file and
  56. restart your system before you can use the CP Plug-in with Netscape Navigator.
