The Difference between Community Place Browser Helper and Plug-in Though the system requirements for using the Community Place Browser (Netscape Plug-in) are the same as for the Community Place Browser (helper application), the operation of the Plug-in differs in the following respects: 1.A pop-up menu appears when you press your mouse right button inside the browser window. 2.You can show and hide the tool bar and navigation bar by selecting the "Options" menu. 3.The CP Plug-in does not have "Open File", "Open Url", and "Exit" menu options. Please use Netscape Navigator's menu option counterparts listed on the File pulldown menu. 4.The CP Plug-in does not have "Back", "Forward", and "Reload" buttons and menu options. Please use Netscape Navigator's menu option counterparts instead. 5.The CP Plug-in does not have a menu option to show the Java console. Please use Netscape Navigator's counterpart listed on the Options pulldown menu. 6.You can jump or float by pressing your TAB key instead of the ESC key. 7.The Java API Vscp.goFromAvtroomToOriginalWorld() method is ignored. 8.When installing the CP Plug-in, the installer overwrites your autoexec.bat file. (Note that you will be prompted to accept this change before it occurs.) 9.Due to Netscape Navigator's security management, you cannot access local files or network nodes other than the host system for the VRML file from your Java scripts attached to VRML worlds. Multi-User Support in the Community Place Plug-in Note that local file i/o capability is NOT required in order to support multi-user interaction or shared behavior scripting (using the vscp Java API extensions). The Community Place plug-in version does not use Java to implement multi-user communication. Therefore, this version supports all the multi-user worlds posted on the Gallery page, and will be restricted only if the world author attempts via a Java script to communicate with a network server other than the original wrl file host or write to your local file system. These are the same restrictions Netscape Navigator places upon any Java program which operates under Navigator's control (as in the case of a plug-in). Download Now!
