  10. ABSTRACT:

  12. NMAUX1.EXE provides a prepared suite of NetWare Managment Agent
  13. 2.1 MIBs for compiling on certain Unix management consoles.  This
  14. enables the server management portion of ManageWise 2.0 or NMA
  15. 2.1 to provide server performance data & fault info to SunNet
  16. Manager, HP OpenView, and SystemView for AIX management consoles. 
  17. We recommend that you download NMAUX1.EXE if you own ManageWise
  18. 2.0 (or have purchased NMAgent 2.1 separately) and ALSO own one
  19. of the following:
  20.  - SunNet: Manager 2.2.2 for Solaris 1.1.1
  21.  - HP OpenView
  22.  - IBM's SystemView for AIX

  39. ManageWise 2.0 and NetWare Management Agent 2.1 provide real-time
  40. server performance data and information about server alarms to
  41. network management consoles.
  42.  Use the proper NetWare Management Agent 2.1 MIB suite, in
  43. NMAUX1.EXE, for your SNMP Unix Based Management Stations:
  44.    A. The files in the SUN directory for SunNet Manager
  45.    B. The files in the HP directory for the HP OVW Node Manager
  46.    C. The files in the IBM directory for IBM SystemView for AIX
  47.  
  48.  Each directory contains a .TXT file with installation and use
  49. instructions
  50.  plus a version of each of the following 5 MIBs:
  51.    1. NWSERVER.MIB (NetWare Server)
  52.    2. RFC1514.MIB (Host Resources)
  53.    3. NWHOSTX.MIB (Extensions to the Host Resources)
  54.    4. NWTREND.MIB (NetWare Trends and Thresholds)
  55.    5. NWALARM.MIB (NetWare Server Trap)

  58.  OVERVIEW OF THE THREE SYSTEMS

  60.  A. SunNet Manager (SNM)

  62.  Version:  SunNetManager Version 2.2.2 for Solaris 1.1.1

  65.  SunNet Manager, Version 2.2.2 for Solaris 1.1.1 is an
  66. OpenWindows
  67.  application using the OPEN LOOK graphical user interface.  SNM
  68. provides a
  69.  set of tools and services which allow the  user to perform
  70. fundamental
  71.  tasks in managing a network. 
  72.  
  73.  SNM communicates with devices on the network via Proxy Agents
  74. which are
  75.  used to transmit and/or gather information pertaining to devices
  76. on the
  77.  network.  The SunNet Manager Console communicates via the Remote
  78. Procedure
  79.  Call (RPC) protocol to an SNMP proxy agent in order to gather
  80. NMA data from
  81.  a NetWare Server.  The SNMP proxy agent translates the RPC
  82. protocol data
  83.  request into an SNMP protocol request which is sent  to a 
  84. specific device
  85.  (NetWare Server).  The data is returned from the Novell NetWare
  86. Server via
  87.  the same path.

  101.  The trap daemon can be configured to forward some or all traps 
  102. to one or
  103.  more SNM Console.  The SNMP device issuing the traps must be
  104. configured to
  105.  send traps to the host where trap daemon resides.  The trap
  106. daemon need not
  107.  reside on the SNMP proxy agent system or the Console system, it
  108. can be
  109.  distributed on a network to reduce network traffic and to share
  110. the
  111.  processing load.

  138.  HP OpenView Windows (OVW) is a graphical user interface designed
  139. to
  140.  integrate the presentation of network management and systems
  141. management
  142.  applications.  OVW users access network management functionality
  143. through
  144.  pull-down menus and dialogue boxes.

  146.  The Network Node Manager (NNM) is an SNMP-based application
  147. running under
  148.  the HP Open View Windows graphical user interface.  It is a
  149. configuration,
  150.  performance, and fault management application for multivendor
  151. TCP/IP
  152.  networks.  It can automatically discover devices on the network,
  153. and create
  154.  an environment of interactive maps and submaps.  These maps
  155. contain related
  156.  objects which represent entities or resources on the network. 
  157. Management
  158.  and edit actions can be performed on these network objects.  The
  159. NNM can
  160.  monitor and control agent systems (devices on the network)
  161. through SNMP.

  185.  - is the principal SystemView for AIX graphical user interface
  186. for managing
  187.  TCP/IP-based internets. 
  188.  - provides map drawing, map editing, and menu management
  189. operations. 
  190.  - is an X11/Motif application based on OSF/Motif user interface
  191. guidelines.

  193.  SystemView for AIX discovers and updates the topology of IP
  194. networks and
  195.  translates the information into symbols that appear on the view
  196. you see of
  197.  your network's map.  SystemView for AIX uses background
  198. processes, or
  199.  daemons, that run continuously.  These daemons provide services
  200. that must
  201.  be available at all times.  These daemons fall into the
  202. following
  203.  categories:
  204.  Topology discovery and database operation, Event and trap
  205. processing, and
  206.  Host connection.  A system of interconnected maps and submaps
  207. containing
  208.  network manageable objects can be automatically discovered.

  210.  AIX Users can access network management functionality through

  212.  menus and dialogue boxes.
