  16. This PTF, NGM121.EXE, contains files that patch NetWare Global Messaging
  17. v1.0 to v1.00b.  The file fixes the intermittent problem where an
  18. asynchronous connection disconnects when a NetWare Global Messaging server
  19. is sending and receiving on multiple inbound-and- outbound asynchronous
  20. connections simultaneously.  The file also fixes problems when NetWare
  21. Global Messaging consumes more disk space than is necessary for message
  22. storage.

  49.                  UPGRADING FROM v1.00 to v1.00b
  50.                       ------------------
  51. This file describes the steps required to upgrade NetWare Global Messaging
  52. from version v1.00 version to v1.00b.
  53.  
  54. This upgrade provides the following fixes and enhancements:
  55.  
  56. o  Fixes an intermittent problem in which an asynchronous connection
  57. disconnects when a NetWare Global Messaging server is sending and receiving
  58. on multiple inbound-and-outbound-asynchronous-connections at the same
  59. time.
  60.  
  61. o  NetWare Global Messaging v1.00 consumes more disk space than is
  62. necessary for message storage.  This upgrade deletes temporary files after
  63. they are no longer necessary.
  64.  
  65. NOTE:  This patch is designed to upgrade NetWare Global Messaging v1.00 to
  66. v1.00b.  If you have a version other than v1.00, this upgrade will not
  67. work.  To determine your current NGM version, type 'load MODULES' at the
  68. server console prompt and verify that the version number for 'NGMADMIN.NLM'
  69. is v1.00.  If you have any other version, contact your local Novell
  70. representative to receive the appropriate upgrade for your system.

  74.                    WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO FIRST?
  75.                         ------------------
  76. Use this upgrade to modify an existing NetWare Global Messaging
  77. installation.  Before you install this upgrade, first install NetWare
  78. Global Messaging v1.00.  For information on installing v1.00, refer to your
  79. "Installing NetWare Global Messaging" manual, part number 100-001200-001.

  83.                      WHICH FILES ARE UPGRADED?
  84.                         ------------------
  85. This upgrade changes the following files.
  86.  
  87.         1.  NGM.NLM
  88.         2.  NGMSMF.NLM
  89.         3.  NGMAMP.NLM
  90.         4.  NGMADMIN.NLM
  91.         5.  NGMADMIN.HLP
  92.  
  93. This upgrade does not change the serial number and maximum number of
  94. licensed users for your NetWare Global Messaging installation.
  95.

  97.                       UPGRADING YOUR SERVER
  98.                         ------------------
  99. 1.  Login to your NGM server as supervisor.
  100.  
  101. 2.  The contents of the NGM121.EXE file are as follows:
  102.  
  103.         1.  README.UPG
  104.         2.  PATCH.EXE
  105.         3.  PATCHNGM.BAT
  106.         4.  UPGRAD1B.RTP
  107.     
  108. 3.  Copy the files 'PATCH.EXE', 'PATCHNGM.BAT', and 'UPGRAD1B.RTP' to the
  109. root NGM directory.  The default NetWare Global Messaging directory is
  110. <drive:>\NGM\.
  111.  
  112.         Sample:  COPY PATCH.EXE    <drive:>\NGM\*.*
  113.                  COPY PATCHNGM.BAT <drive:>\NGM\*.*
  114.                  COPY UPGRAD1B.RTP <drive:>\NGM\*.*
  115.  
  116. If you installed NetWare Global Messaging v1.00 in a different directory,
  117. be sure to copy the upgrade files to that directory.  For example, if
  118. NetWare Global Messaging is installed in the directory
  119. <drive:>\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\, enter the following:
  120.  
  121.         Sample:  COPY PATCH.EXE    <drive:>\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\*.*
  122.                  COPY PATCHNGM.BAT <drive:>\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\*.*
  123.                  COPY UPGRAD1B.RTP <drive:>\PUBLIC\MAIL\NGM\*.*
  124.  
  125. The patch program searches all subdirectories to find the appropriate files
  126. to upgrade.  So, it is very important to start the upgrade procedure from
  127. the correct directory.
  128.  
  129. 4.  Unload NGM at the server console and make a backup copy of your NetWare
  130. Global Messaging Directory structure.
  131.  
  132. NOTE:  Do not save backup files under the same directory structure in which
  133. you installed NetWare Global Messaging.  The upgrade procedure will update
  134. the first file within the directory structure.  If this first file happens
  135. to be a backup file, then the correct system file will not be upgraded.
  136.  
  137. 5.  Verify that your server has at least 3.5 MB of free hard disk space. 
  138. This is the recommended minimum required to install this upgrade.
  139.  
  140. 6.  Change to the root NGM directory (where you copied the upgrade files). 
  141. Enter:
  142.  
  143.         PATCHNGM
  144.  
  145. The patch program upgrades all appropriate files.  The patch program also
  146. retains a log of the results in a file called 'RESULTS.TXT'.  To verify
  147. your upgrade installation, view the contents of 'RESULTS.TXT' after the
  148. upgrade is complete.
  149.  
  150. 7.  Verify your NetWare Global Messaging files have been upgraded
  151. correctly.
  152.  
  153. Your upgraded files are located in directory BIN\.  For example, if your
  154. current directory is \NGM\, the upgraded files are located in \NGM\BIN\. 
  155. Ensure the upgraded files have the following sizes/dates/times:
  156.  
  157.         1. NGM.NLM           -   601798 - 8/20/92 -  2:48p
  158.         2. NGMSMF.NLM        -   410235 - 8/04/92 - 11:36p
  159.         3. NGMAMP.NLM        -   161002 - 8/12/92 -  5:14p
  160.         4. NGMADMIN.NLM      -   428538 - 8/31/92 -  3:55p
  161.         5. NGMADMIN.HLP      -   132927 - 8/24/92 - 11:40a
  162.  
  163. If your file sizes do not match those listed above, please contact your
  164. Novell representative.  Please be prepared to give the exact steps you
  165. followed to perform the upgrade, the size and date of the upgrade files,
  166. your NGM directory structure and the contents of the 'RESULTS.TXT' file.
  167.  
  168. 8.  During the patch process a BACKUP directory is created under the
  169. directory from which you ran 'PATCHNGM'.  The BACKUP directory contains all
  170. files that were changed and a file called 'UNPATCH.BAK'.  If you want to
  171. undo your upgrade and return your installation to its previous state,
  172. perform the following procedure.
  173.  
  174. o     To restore your system, change to the BACKUP directory, copy
  175. 'UNPATCH.BAK' to 'UNPATCH.BAT', and type "UNPATCH". This file will delete
  176. all new files in the appropriate directories and replace them with the
  177. files which originally existed.
  178.  
  179. o     Verify the original files have been correctly re-installed and delete
  180. the BACKUP directory before attempting to upgrade the system for a second
  181. time.
