  11. Introduction

  13. The Chicago meeting was productive for the P1224 working group, and we
  14. are very near the completion of the standardization of the P1224 and
  15. P1224.1 documents.
  16.  
  17. At the Chicago meeting the group:
  18.  
  19.    - planned the next P1224 ballot resolution meeting,
  20.  
  21.    - reviewed the JTC1 recommendations for the International
  22.      Standardization of the IEEE X.400, POSIX.17 Directory Services,
  23.      and Object Management APIs,
  24.  
  25.    - planned future work for the P1224 group,
  26.  
  27.    - presented the status of the IEEE balloting of P1224,
  28.  
  29.    - presented the status of the IEEE balloting of P1224.1,
  30.  
  31.    - resolved the ballot objections and reviewed the ballot
  32.      comments for the P1224 and P1224.1 documents, and
  33.  
  34.    - planed the recirculation of the P1224 and P1224.1
  35.      documents.

  37. P1224 Next Ballot Resolution Meeting
  38.  
  39. The group will not meet with the other TCOS groups at the October
  40. meeting in Utrecht, NL.  We agreed to meet November 16-20 at NIST
  41. (Gaithersburg, MD).

  43. International Standardization of the APIs
  44.  
  45. JTC1 has recommended that the IEEE P1224 and P1003.17 working groups
  46. split each of the X.400, X.500 and Object Management API documents
  47. into four separate documents (Language Independent Specification, Test
  48. Methods for Language Independent Specification, C Language Binding, and
  49. Test Methods for C Language Binding).  Additionally, JTC1 has
  50. recommended that the IEEE submit the X.400, X.500 and Object
  51. Management API documents to JTC1 for fast-track when they are approved
  52. IEEE standards, and that members of the P1224 and POSIX.17 working
  53. groups solicit international support for these IEEE standards in order
  54. to increase the likelyhood of a successful fast-track.  The P1224 group
  55. agreed to follow these JTC1 recommendations.

  57. P1224 Working Group Status and Future Plans
  58.  
  59. The first recirculation of the P1224 document began on May 20 and it
  60. ended on June 19.  The balloting pool consists of 73 members.  The
  61. balloting for the P1224 document closed with 81% of the ballots
  62. returned and 78% of the eligible voters approved the document.
  63.  
  64. Plans for standardizing future X.400 related APIs were discussed.  The
  65. X.400 API Association and X/Open will have stable base documents for a
  66. P7 and an EDI API by the end of 1992.  Tentatively, we would like to
  67. begin converting these documents into IEEE standards at the January
  68. 1993 meeting.

  70. P1224.1 Balloting Status
  71.  
  72. The P1224.1 balloting period began May 6 and it ended June 5.  The
  73. balloting pool consists of 50 members.  The balloting for the P1224.1
  74. document closed with 77% of the ballots returned and 82% of the
  75. eligible voters approved the document.

  77. P1224 and P1224.1 Ballot Resolution and Recirculation
  78.  
  79. The group spent three days resolving the ballot objections and
  80. reviewing the ballot comments for the P1224 and P1224.1 documents.
  81. The technical editor will incorporate the changes into the document.

  83. A 10 day recirculation of the P1224 document was scheduled to begin
  84. October 4 and end October 14.  A 30 day recirculation of the P1224
  85. document was scheduled to begin October 10 and end November 9.

  89. The progress of the P1224 working group is very good.  We hope to have
  90. the P1224 and P1224.1 standards complete early 1993.  The primary
  91. function of the November meeting will be P1224 and P1224.1 ballot
  92. resolution.
