  8. It is, unfortunately, rather too late for this.  1003.2, which covers
  9. awk among many other things, is pretty much finalized.
  10.  
  11. It *is* a blemish that awk can do various kinds of conversions *to*
  12. strings using sprintf, but can't go the other way very easily.
