- As someone who administers a wide variety of Xenix, System V, and BSD UNIX
- boxes, I'd like to say that the /etc/rcN.d scheme is *FAR* superior to the
- old /etc/rc.local setup. You want to do something at startup? Just move a
- file into a directory. You want to remove a software package? Just remove
- this file... of course Sun doesn't *have* a concept of a "software package".
-
- The additional features of SunOS over V.3.2 are really nice, but the basic
- system integration in V.3.2 is way better, and if you have more than one or
- two systems to administer it more than makes up for the shorter feature list.

- Multiply that by a few dozen systems, each with their own hardware setup?
-
- We added an /etc/rc.d to our Xenix boxes as soon as we saw the System V
- scheme. When they quit reinstalling the Suns every other day we'll do
- something similar there.
-
- I don't know what POSIX is specifying here, but I hope it's something more
- similar to System V than BSD. Though with my luck they'll use ASN.1 for
- everything. :->
