  7. The USENET newsgroup comp.std.unix is also known as the mailing list
  8. std-unix@uunet.uu.net.  It is for discussions of standards related
  9. to the UNIX operating system, particularly of IEEE P1003, or POSIX,
  10. including IEEE 1003.1, 1003.2, etc.
  11.  
  12. Other related standards bodies and subjects include but are not limited
  13. to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC22 WG15 (the ISO and IEC version of POSIX), X/Open
  14. and their X/Open Portability Guide (XPG), the Open Software Foundation
  15. (OSF), UNIX International (UI), the AT&T System V Interface Definition
  16. (SVID), System V Release 3, System V Release 4, 4.2BSD, 4.3BSD, 4.4BSD,
  17. Tenth Edition UNIX, the UniForum Technical Committee, the USENIX
  18. Standards Watchdog Committee, the X3.159 C Standard by the ANSI X3J11
  19. committee and the corresponding WG14 ISO committee, and other language
  20. standards.

  22. The moderator is John S. Quarterman, who is also the institutional
  23. representative of the USENIX Association to IEEE P1003.

  28. The mailing list is distributed on the Internet, UUCP, and elsewhere.
  29. There is a redistribution list on BITNET for BITNET, EARN, and NetNorth.
  30. Please send submissions from those networks to std-unix@uunet.uu.net
  31. nonetheless, because messages sent to the BITNET LISTSERV will not reach
  32. the whole list.

  34. If you have access to USENET, it is better (more efficient, cheaper,
  35. less effort for me to manage) to subscribe to the newsgroup comp.std.unix
  36. than to the mailing list.  Submissions should still go to the above
  37. addresses, although many (perhaps most) USENET hosts will forward
  38. attempts to post directly to the newsgroup to the moderator.

  40. The hostname cs.utexas.edu may be used in place of uunet or uunet.uu.net.
  41. Postings from the moderator may also originate from longway.tic.com.
  42.  
  43. Permission to post to the newsgroup is assumed for mail to std-unix.
  44. Permission to post is not assumed for mail to std-unix-request,
  45. unless explicitly granted in the mail.  Mail to my personal addresses
  46. will be treated like mail to std-unix-request if it obviously refers
  47. to the newsgroup.

  49. Finally, remember that any remarks by any committee member (especially
  50. including me) in this newsgroup do not represent any position (including
  51. any draft, proposed or actual, of a standard) of the committee as a
  52. whole or of any subcommittee unless explicitly stated otherwise
