  17. IEEE POSIX 1003 Steering Committee and Working groups

  19. Attached is a copy of the IEEE POSIX System Administration
  20. Standards Project Authorization Request (PAR).  It briefly
  21. describes the scope and purpose of the proposed System
  22. Administration working group.  In order to get this work started,
  23. we need to identify the resources and related activities that we
  24. can utilize.
  25.  
  26. First, we need to establish the administrative responsibilities
  27. for this group.  Listed below are the names of people who have
  28. indicated an interest in helping in the roles of Chair, Co-chair
  29. and Secretary.  In addition, we are looking for volunteers for
  30. technical editor and technical reviewers.  If you have
  31. recommendations for individuals who could help out in these areas
  32. we would appreciate your input.  This effort will probably have
  33. just one main group.  In general,  the Chair and Co-chair roles
  34. are best served by persons with management experience.  Strong
  35. technical experts are better able to advocate positions as
  36. members rather than from the chair.  There is a slight preference
  37. to have users serve as chairs where we can find supported
  38. candidates.  All of these roles should be supported by the
  39. individual's employeer, since there is a need for attendance, and
  40. also for other activities that take time.  For example,
  41. chairpersons attend IEEE Computer Society Standards Coordinating
  42. Committee (SCC) meetings (two days long, twice a year) and spend
  43. hours preparing documents for secretaries and technical editors.
