- POSIX Portability Workshop

- This USENIX workshop will bring together system and application
- implementors faced with the problems, ``challenges,'' and other
- considerations that arise from attempting to make their products
- compliant with IEEE Standard 1003.1.

- The target dates are 15 and 16 October, 1987, in Berkeley, CA.
- The first day will consist of presentations of brief position papers
- describing experiences, dilemmas, and solutions. On the second day we
- plan to form smaller focus groups to brainstrom additional solutions,
- dig deeper into specific areas, and attempt to forge common approaches
- to some of the dilemmas.

- Suggestions for topic areas for position papers include:

- C Language Issues Internationalization
- Networked/Distributed Implementations Pipes and FIFOs
- Timer Resolution and Ranges Signals
- Job Control, Process Groups Limits: Documentation and Inquiry
- Conformance Verification (IEEE 1003.3) Security Concerns
- Implications for Commands (IEEE 1003.2) What to do about errno?
- Implications for User Interfaces Terminal Interface

- Position papers are needed by 15 August 1987. Detailed instructions
- will be published in a future issue of ;login:, the USENIX Association
- Newsletter (and in other appropriate places, such as comp.std.unix)
- along with final information on time and place.
