  4. The US technical advisory group (TAG) for ISO/TC97 has agreed to propose
  5. an ISO work item based on the IEEE 1003.1 POSIX effort.  This is the
  6. formal process needed to initiate an ISO standards activity.  This
  7. effort would be CLOSELY coordinated with the 1003.1 effort to assure that
  8. we have a Single Standard.  Individuals and Institutions outside of the
  9. US are encouraged to contact their ISO TC97 representatives and let them
  10. know of their interest, ideally to encourage both an Approval of the
  11. work item; and an agreement to participate in the project.  (Many countries
  12. will be hesitant to participate if they don't know who inside the country
  13. is capable of providing technical input -- so these contacts can aid both
  14. the ISO representatives, and also potentially the individuals who are willing
  15. to participate in their countries "TAGs".)
