  5. About the Inverse IP InSight Client for Windows
  6. -----------------------------------------------
  7. This utility monitors the performance of Windows Dial-Up Networking 
  8. call attempts. Like other "test and diagnostic" software, its goal 
  9. is to improve the quality of service you receive, without impacting your 
  10. service or invading your privacy.  The Client was installed on your PC as 
  11. a part of the installation of your ISP's software, or perhaps an 
  12. application for which an Internet connection is a useful option.
  13.  
  14. After you have connected to the Internet, the Client uploads quality of 
  15. service metrics, detailed below, to a server at your Internet Service 
  16. Provider (ISP), or at Inverse, where it is then provided to your ISP.
  17.  
  18. If you have difficulty connecting to the Internet, the IP InSight Client 
  19. includes more than 150 help screens to assist you in solving connection
  20. problems.  These help screens are seamlessly integrated with your dialing 
  21. software and the operating system, and include work-flow links enabling 
  22. faster troubleshooting of problems connecting to the Internet.

  24. To improve its network service, an ISP may program the Client to occasionally 
  25. and unobtrusively perform simple network tests in the background, such as 
  26. "pinging" a network location.  The uploaded data contains no identifying 
  27. information that would violate your privacy, and does NOT monitor what you do 
  28. on the Internet, such as which Web sites you visit.  Please contact your ISP 
  29. for further information on how IP InSight helps them provide better service.

  34. The Inverse IP InSight Client requires only about 1MB of disk space to install 
  35. and uses minimal memory in operation.

  37. The Client is designed so that its operation, including Internet testing 
  38. requested by your ISP, is completely unobtrusive:
  39.       - Does not interfere with dial-up operation
  40.       - Can run no more than five Internet tests per hour
  41.       - Waits for a period of inactivity on your modem before testing
  42.       - Cancels tests as soon as you need the network
  43.  
  44. The following kinds of information are never monitored, collected nor 
  45. transmitted:
  46.       - web sites visited or any other actions
  47.       - applications loaded or used (except dial-up software and browser 
  48.     version)
  49.       - credit card information
  50.  
  51. The following kinds of information relating to your Dial-Up Networking 
  52. access are uploaded after each successful Dial-Up Networking call:
  53.     - User login ID            optional, depends on ISP
  54.     - IP InSight Client version        release number (e.g., 4.0.0.27)
  55.     - Upload protocol version        format of the uploaded data
  56.     - OEM ID                e.g., "Your ISP"
  57.     - Phone number dialed        your ISP's phone number
  58.     - Your country code            e.g., "1" for the US
  59.     - Your area code            e.g., "212" for New York City
  60.     - Your time zone            in seconds from Greenwich time
  61.     - ISP's PPP server IP address    e.g., "123.45.67.89"
  62.     - Dial-Up Networking Connection name as entered by user
  63.     - Your modem name            e.g., "U.S. Robotics 56K FAX EXT
  64.                         V4.9.1"
  65.     - OS type and version        "Windows 4.0.950"
  66.     - Network configuration settings such as compression, flow control
  67.     - CPU type, disk space available, total physical memory
  68.     - Browser type and version        "Internet Explorer 4.72.3110.8"
  69.     - For each call attempt since last connect:
  70.     - Date and time of call
  71.     - Call result (success/failure code)
  72.     - Time taken to login
  73.     - Initial connect speed
  74.     - "Call is a redial" flag

  76. How to Uninstall
  77. ----------------
  78. The Client can be removed using the Add/Remove Programs utility from the
  79. control panel. Remove the application "Inverse IP InSight...".
