  7.             Kor's family descends from the
  8.             Imperial Court itself. Kor is
  9.             "of the blood" -- born to rule by
  10.             the divine will of Kahless! And
  11.             what was I? A boy from the Ketha
  12.             lowlands. He couldn't bear the
  13.             thought of someone like me
  14.             joining the elite officer ranks.
  15.             So to my father's embarrassment
  16.             and my everlasting shame, my
  17.             application was denied. And with
  18.             the mark of Kor on my record I
  19.             couldn't even join as a common
  20.             soldier.
  21.                 (beat) 
  22.             So I spent five years as a 
  23.             civilian laborer aboard General 
  24.             ShiVang's flagship.
  25.                 (beat) 
  26.             As fortune would have it, the 
  27.             Romulans made a foolhardy attempt 
  28.             to board that ship, and I earned 
  29.             a battlefield commission. 
  30.             Unfortunately, my father did not 
  31.             live to see that glorious day. 
  32.             But if Kor'd had his way, I would 
  33.             still be a civilian on that 
  34.             ship... cleaning the officers' 
  35.             mess.

  37.     A long, quiet beat. Worf understands the depth of 
  38.     Martok's feelings, but he's already committed 
  39.     himself.

  44.             However... I must tell you that 
  45.             using my own authority, I 
  46.             appointed Kor an officer in the 
  47.             Ninth Fleet.

  50.     betrayed expression.
