  7.             I speak with the voice of the 
  8.             Prophets.

  10.     The Preacher reaches out and grabs Benny's ear as if 
  11.     reading his pagh. The Preacher takes his hand away and 
  12.     looks at it --
  13.  
  14. 60   INSERT OF THE PREACHER'S FINGERS
  15.  
  16.     smeared with blood.
  17.  
  18. 61   RESUME
  19.  
  20.     Benny reacts by touching the same ear, but when he 
  21.     looks at his hand, there's no blood on it at all.
  22.  
  23.                     PREACHER 
  24.             And in their words, hope and 
  25.             despair walk arm in arm.
  26.  
  27.     And on that ominous note, the Preacher walks away. We 
  28.     HOLD ON Benny and Cassie watching him leave.
  29.  
  30.                     CASSIE 
  31.             Did you understand any of that?
  32.  
  33.     But before Benny can answer, we hear the sound of a gun 
  34.     being FIRED. Then after a beat, THREE MORE SHOTS.
  35.  
  36.                     CASSIE 
  37.             Is that gunfire?
  38.  
  39.     A few people begin to hurry toward the sound of the 
  40.     gunfire. The Preacher looks off in that direction, 
  41.     then back at Benny.
  42.  
  43.                     PREACHER 
  44.             The time has come, Brother Benny. 
  45.             Go and "be of good courage."
  46.  
  47.     Benny, knowing it's what the Preacher wants, begins to 
  48.     follow the crowd.
  49.  
  50.     Feeling an unexplained panic build inside him, Benny 
  51.     breaks into a fast trot, pulling Cassie along with him.
