  6.     CLOSE ON O'Brien sitting on a bio-bed and holding 
  7.     Kirayoshi on his shoulder. Bashir runs a scanner over 
  8.     the baby. Bashir checks his readings, then:

  10.                     BASHIR 
  11.             I've got good news. Your son's 
  12.             fine.
  13.  
  14.                     O'BRIEN
  15.             Except that he cries constantly 
  16.             unless I'm holding him.
  17.  
  18.                     BASHIR
  19.             I've given him every imaginable 
  20.             test. Eyes, ears, digestive, 
  21.             pulmonary and nervous systems - 
  22.             there's nothing medically wrong 
  23.             with him.

  25.                     O'BRIEN
  26.             What are you telling me, that my 
  27.             baby is just... sad?
  28.  
  29.                     BASHIR
  30.             Perhaps he's become prematurely 
  31.             aware of life's existential 
  32.             isolation.

  34.                     O'BRIEN
  35.             You're sure it's not a rash?
  36.  
  37.                     BASHIR
  38.             Look at the positive side: he'll 
  39.             probably be a great poet. 
  40.                 (a beat) 
  41.             There's nothing else I can do for
