  8.             Zarale, responsible for the massacre 
  9.             of a half-dozen Bajoran villages.  I 
  10.             tried to tell them what happened, 
  11.             but they had already convinced 
  12.             themselves that I killed Zarale during 
  13.             some kind of savage struggle.
  14.                 (a beat)
  15.             Which is what they insisted on telling 
  16.             every Bajoran we met.  And no matter 
  17.             how hard I denied it, the story 
  18.             continued to spread until it seemed 
  19.             all of Bajor had heard it.  Soon 
  20.             every victory won by the resistance 
  21.             was attributed to my leadership.  
  22.             Stories of my courage, my brilliance, 
  23.             my daring grew more and more 
  24.             unbelievable... yet people insisted 
  25.             on believing them.  My reputation 
  26.             even followed me into the labor 
  27.             camp... my presence alone seemed to 
  28.             inspire my fellow prisoners... and 
  29.             all I had done was shot an unarmed 
  30.             Cardassian in his underwear.  I'll 
  31.             never forget that look on his face 
  32.             as he died.  He was so... embarrassed.
  33.                 (a beat; ruefully)
  34.             Commander, I did what Bajor needed 
  35.             me to do.  I've allowed myself to be 
  36.             a slave to my reputation all these 
  37.             years.  Isn't that enough?
