- WHAT ARE THE IT UTILITIES
-
- It Utilities are not free or public domain software. Non-
- registered user are permitted to use them for a 21 days trial
- period. To continue using these utilities for more than 21 days
- requires registration.
-
- The It Utilities are extensions to the File manager of Windows
- 3.1. They use the drag and drop facility of the File manager to
- enhance it. Instead of buying a replacement File manager you can
- add functions to it, you won't have to learn a whole new tool.
- These utilities are enhanced with icon animation and sound. All
- sounds were recorded using a Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16
- sound card.
-
- The first utility is Trash It and implements a trash can to delete
- files. Trash It can keep files from your fixed disk when deleting
- so you can undelete them if need be.
-
- The second utility is View It, a file viewer that can show up to
- four text files at a time in either text or hex mode. View It does
- not load files in memory, it reads each page from the disk when
- needed. View It is thus capable of showing text files of ANY size.
-
- The third utility is Zip It, a shell for PKWare's PKZip and
- PKUnzip. For this release you need a copy of PKZip and PKUnzip to
- use Zip It.
-
- Finally Load It is an extension menu to the File manager to
- automatically or manually load/unload the It Utilities when you
- start or close the File manager.
-
- Apart from Load It, these utilities may also be used with other
- File manager's that support drag and drop.
-
- For more information on each utilities you should check out the
- help provided. You can access the help of each utility from their
- respective system menu. The Load It help is accessed from the Load
- it menu command added to the File manager's main menu.

- HOW TO INSTALL
-
- Simply run the Install program provided. You should restart the
- File Manager after installing to activate the It Utilities. You
- should check the Zip It help under 'Update File Manager' for
- details about speeding up File Manager's updates.
-
- These utilities are minimized as icons and you must reduce the
- size of the File manager to access them. The easiest way to do
- this is:
-
- 1. Minimize all your running applications to icons except the
- File Manager.
- 2. Double click on the desktop or press CTRL-ESCAPE to bring up
- the Task Manager.
- 3. Click on the Tile button.
-
- You will then have the largest File Manager window possible with
- access to the It Utilities.
-
- If you install over a previous copy of the same version of the It
- Utilities you should close the File manager and any It Utilities
- before running the install. You can start the install from the
- Program manager (File|Run). If you start the install from the File
- manager, you must close it immediately after the first screen of
- the install program appears. This will enable the install to
- overwrite existing files, since Windows will not let an
- application write over files that are in use. After installing,
- you may want to enable the new option for Trash It to keep files
- forever.
-
- Included are PIF files for PKZip and PKUnzip. These will run PKZip
- and PKUnzip inside a Window without closing it after they are
- done. This enables you to check for any errors that may have
- occured while zipping or unzipping. You then MUST close the window
- yourself. If you would like that behavior please move these files
- from the It Utilities directory to the directory where you have
- PKZip and PKUnzip.
-
- HOW TO UNINSTALL
-
- If you decide not to purchase the It Utilities after the 21 days
- trial period or you would like to delete the It Utilities for some
- reason, please follow the following steps.
-
- 1. Edit the WINFILE.INI file located in your Windows directory and
- remove the line from the [AddOns] section that refers to
- LOADIT.DLL. It should look something like this:
-
- [AddOns]
- Load it=C:\ITUTIL\loadit.dll
-
- 2. Delete the files located in the directory in which you
- installed the It Utilities. By default it is c:\itutil. Note
- that you should close any It Utilities still running before
- doing this. You MUST have done step one, closed and restarted
- the File manager to erase the file LOADIT.DLL. If not, the File
- manager will report it in use and refuse to delete it.
-
- 3. Delete the file ITUTIL.INI located in your Windows directory.
- You may wish to keep this file if you intend to install It
- Utilities again so that your settings are preserved.
-
- 4. Delete the file BWCC.DLL in your Windows system directory. But
- ONLY if you are sure that no other software you have installed
- uses it. This file is a sharable dynamic link library
- containing the 3D look of the dialog boxes of the It Utilities.
- It was developed by Borland and may also be used by some of
- their products or products developed using their compilers. You
- can easily tell by the look of the dialog boxes.
-
- 5. In the program manager, delete all the icons in the It
- Utilities group and delete the group.
-
- BENEFITS OF REGISTERING
-
- If you decide to register you will get these benefits:
-
- 1. Sound support for 8 and 16 bits audio cards.
-
- 2. The "Unregistered" message under each utility will be replaced
- by a file counter that tells you how many files are kept or
- shown by each utility.
-
- 3. A manual.
-
- 4. Notifications of and special price for upgrades.
-
- 5. As a bonus you will also receive replacement sound files for
- the four standard sounds of Windows. They are similar but of
- much better quality. They will also be in 8 and 16 bits
- formats.

- HISTORY
-
- 1.5 07/93 Added: files kept forever in Trash It, hex mode and
- hex search in View It and file information in Zip It.
-
- Install will not duplicate icons in the Program
- Manager group.
-
- Zip It gives a message when it encounters a corrupted
- zip file instead of crashing. You can now set Zip It
- so it will not update the File Manager's Windows. All
- of Zip It path fields have been made auto-scrollable
- for long pathnames.
-
- Because of new file structure for Trash It, it now
- only says if it is empty or if it is keeping files in
- the registered version.
-
- You can now setup default fonts for each mode in View
- It.
-
- Added PIF files to run PKZip and PKUnzip inside a
- Window. Must be manually installed by user.
-
- 1.4 02/93 Fixed more problems with install that did not always
- copy BWCC.DLL especially on networks.
-
- Added eyes to View It Icon on drop.
-
- Made all path fields in Zip It lower case only.
-
- Added percent full to Trash It title (registered
- version).
-
- Added minimal support for EGA.
-
-
- 1.3 01/93 Fixed bug in Trash It and Zip It where they could
- crash if the Show trashing or Show sending where
- disabled.
-
- Added the escape key to cancel both the Trashing and
- the Sending dialogs.
-
- Fixed problem with install that did not always copy
- BWCC.DLL.
-
- 1.2 01/93 Changed the way files are selected in list boxes.
- Now you can use shift with a click of the mouse to
- select a range. Ctrl with a click of the mouse will
- select/deselect an item. You can also select a range
- by dragging the mouse with the left button down.
-
- Fixed more problems with the keyboard handler of the
- find dialog. Added hourglass cursor while searching.
-
- 1.1 12/92 Fixed problems with Find dialog in viewer. Now you
- can't call up more than one Find dialog. Choosing
- Find from the menu simply gives the focus to the
- existing Find dialog. Also the keyboard handler of
- the Find dialog would get disabled when switching
- to another window and comming back. This is also
- fixed.
-
- Fixed problem in the viewer when a file was not
- ended with a carriage return, the last line would
- not always be visible when using the key 'End' to get
- to the end of file.
-
- Fixed problem in the viewer when the next command was
- used and the next file was minimized it would not open.
