  119.     BITFTP provides a mail interface to the FTP portion
  120.     of the IBM TCP/IP product ("FAL") running on the
  121.     Princeton VM system, to allow BITNET/NetNorth/EARN users
  122.     to ftp files from sites on the Internet.

  124.     BITFTP currently accepts requests only via RFC822-format
  125.     mail, IBM NOTE-format mail, PROFS-format messages, or
  126.     files with no headers at all.  BITFTP currently returns
  127.     the requested files as NETDATA-format files or as mail files
  128.     containing UUENCODED data.  If you specify "UUENCODE" or
  129.     "NETDATA" on your "FTP" command, BITFTP will attempt to
  130.     use that format.  If you do not specify the format, BITFTP
  131.     will attempt to select the appropriate format for your node.
  132.     BITFTP attempts to send NETDATA-format files through the gateway
  133.     from EARN into Janet via the NIFTP facility at Rutherford Lab.

  135.     To use BITFTP, send mail containing your ftp commands to
  136.     "BITFTP@PUCC".  The first command to BITFTP must be "FTP"
  137.     or "HELP".

  215.      LISTING contains the names of all the programs stored in the 
  216.      archives, and the sizes.  Note: all archives have probably been 
  217.      stored in compressed form, with 12 bit compression (for machines 
  218.      that can't handle 16 bit).  All multiple file programs have been 
  219.      stored in seperate directories, then compressed.

  221.      More information about the files stored in a particular volume are 
  222.      kept in files called LOGFILE. Such as:

  224.      would be the one to get to examine the exact contents of volume 1
