GINSTALL
NetWare (V4.61) and Advanced NetWare (V1.02) uses GINSTALL to
configure the LNIM in both the server and workstation.
Gateway's version of Advanced NetWare (V2.0a) uses GINSTALL to
configure the LNIM in only the workstation. Any changes to the LNIM
in the server MUST be made by running GENOS.
GINSTALL uses the NIMLOAD.DIS file to gererate or modify the NIMLOAD.BIN file.
The GINSTALL utility can be found on the following diskettes:
NetWare (V4.6x)PC Boot Files Diskette
Advanced NetWare (V1.x) PC Boot Files Diskette
Advanced NetWare (V2.x)Installation Utilities
Diskette
Eight-User Advanced NetWare (V2.x) Shell Diskette
The above configurators are explained in depth in the appropriate G/NET
installation manuals.
We will cover GINSTALL here because it is used more frequently, and the
switch settings are very similar in the other configurators.
Please ensure you have a copy of the latest GINSTALL utility (Rev 2.1).
This revision allows the selection of different revision of the LNIM.
Versions of GINSTALL prior to 2.0 only allow the selection of the
Revision 02 (or below) LNIM. The Revision 03 and greater contain
different Device I/O addresses and therefore cannot be configured with
GINSTALL.
There is a bug in GINSTALL Rev 2.0, where the diagram of STRAP 2 is
shown in reverse on the screen. The latest version of GINSTALL (Rev 2.1
- July 85) corrects this problem. Strap 2 default should look like this:
LNIM STR2 Defaults LNIM STR2 Defaults

Changing the NIMLOAD.BIN on the File Server
This is done with GINSTALL on NetWare (V4.6x) and Advanced NetWare (V1.0x).
Use GINSTALL on Workstation only on Advanced NetWare (V2.0a).
Take the appropriate shell diskette and make a copy. Run GINSTALL on
the copied version, and change the switch settings, thus creating a new
version of NIMLOAD.BIN.
Insert the NetWare Installation disk, select option 5 which just re-installs
the disks 1-6 and does not affect any data or user files, and follow the
instructions.
If file server is active, Login as Supervisor, change the SYS:SYSTEM
directory to SRW (Shareable Read Write), copy the changed NIMLOAD.BIN
directly into SYS:SYSTEM. Change the directory back to Shareable Read
Only, take system down, power off,and change switches on LNIM, then
reboot the file server.
