CABLING TROUBLESHOOTING
If you suspect a cabling problem and need to measure the signal level, the rule
of thumb is: if the signal is 150mv or less, you are losing signal. Check the
grounding, connectors, etc. try to isolate the segment of cable that may be
causing the loss. Also determine that your cable length does not exceed 4000'
without bridging (G/NET PLUS Local Bridge).
CABLING TIPS
Do not plug the cable directly into the LNIM BNC connector.
The cable must be connected to the LNIM BNC connector using a
female-male-female Tee-adapter.
You must use terminators at each end of the network. It is essential in
order to avoid reflection on the network.
Do not mix cables of different impedance together on the same LAN.
Be sure to purchase cable from a reputable supplier. The quality is of
the utmost importance.
Maximum distance between stations is 4000 feet without bridging. To
exceed the 4000 feet, you will need to install G/NET PLUS. This will
allow you to install 2 LNIMs in a workstation for form a bridge to
another 4000 feet.
Minimum distance between stations is 10 feet
DON'T USE STUBS OR DROP CABLES! This will cause noise and reflections
which will slow down the network.
BEWARE OF STATIC! Static can cause erroneous errors on the network
if the installation is in a carpeted area or the area itself is prone to
static charges. Either spray the carpet with anti-static treatment
regularly, install (and ground) anti-static mats under each machine or,
better still, do both.
A new fireproof BELDEN cable can be added to the list of compatible
G/NET cables: Belden #89108 RG-59/U PLENUM Cable.
