  10. Summary:

  12. The following pop-up dialog box may be displayed when you perform a
  13. disk operation that writes to the disk:
  14.  
  15.    VSAFE Warning
  16.  
  17.    Program is trying to write to hard disk
  18.    Do you wish to continue?
  19.  
  20. You can then choose one of three options: Stop, Continue or Boot. If
  21. you choose Stop, the following error message is displayed:

  23.    ATTENTION: A serious disk error has occurred while writing
  24.    to drive C.
  25.  
  26. (Note: If you are running MS-DOS Prompt from Windows, this error
  27. message is displayed in a blue screen with the heading "Serious Disk
  28. Error.")
  29.  
  30. You can now choose to retry the operation. This causes the first VSAFE
  31. error to display again. Until you choose Continue or Boot, you are not
  32. able to escape these recurring warning messages. If you choose
  33. Continue, the write operation is performed. If you choose Boot, the
  34. write operation aborts, your system restarts, and any information you
  35. were trying to save is lost.

  37. This problem is caused by VSAFE installed with the write-protect
  38. option and SMARTDrive installed with write caching enabled. If you
  39. want to use VSAFE with the write-protect option, do not enable
  40. SMARTDrive write caching.

  42. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in MS-DOS version 6.0. We
  43. are researching this problem and will post new information here as it
  44. becomes available.
