  2.                        M S G S   S C A N   O P T I O N S

  4. This command allows you to Scan messages.  Scanning operates much like reading
  5. except that the entire text of the message is not displayed.  A scan presents
  6. the following sub-prompt:

  8.      [F]rom       : <ALL>
  9.      [T]o         : <ALL>
  10.      S[u]bject    : <ALL>
  11.      Msg [B]ody   : <ALL>
  12.      [N]umber     : <ALL>
  13.      [D]irection  : Forward
  14.      [C]onference : Selected
  15.  
  16.      Search command [F T U N D B C], [H]elp, [S]tart, [ENTER] to Quit? [ ]

  18. When defining the search criteria, you can been very specific about what your
  19. looking for, or very general.  The smaller the text string used for any of
  20. the below fields, will allow greater possibilities of matches.  For example,
  21. you want to find all the messages left by someone, but you can't remember how
  22. to spell their name.  By entering 'JO' (less the quotes), the BBS could find
  23. matches on JOE, JOSEPH, JOSE and so on.  An added benefit by keeping the
  24. search string short is speed.  The shorter the string the faster the entire
  25. search process.

  27. Below is an explanation of the available search fields.

  29.      [F]rom       - Select a username addressed [F]rom:
  30.  
  31.      [T]o         - Select a username addressed [T]o:
  32.  
  33.      S[u]bject    - Searches on a specific Subject line string.
  34.  
  35.      Msg [B]ody   - Select keywords in the message body to search for.
  36.                     Example: entering '386' will cause a search for all
  37.                     occurances of that string in all messages based upon
  38.                     overall search criteria.

  40.      [N]umber     - Selects the starting message number to begin the search.
  41.  
  42.      [D]irection  - This is a toggle between forward and backward search
  43.                     direction.  Forward is searching by incrementing the
  44.                     message count by one, and backward just the opposite.

  46.      [C]onference - Selecting this option displays the following sub-prompt:

  48.              Scan [C]urrent, [S]elected, [A]ll conference(s)? [ ]

  51.           [C]urrent  - Limits the scan to ONLY the currently [J]oined
  52.                        conference.
  53.  
  54.           [A]ll      - Searches all of the conferences available based upon
  55.                        your security level.

  57.           [S]elected - Similar to [A]ll option except this will search all
  58.                        conferences selected by the [U]pdate Conferences
  59.                        Scan/Read function found on the Message Menu.

  62. [H]elp       - Displays this information screen.

  64. [S]tart      - Begins the search based upon the above settings.

  80. After messages have been found, you can mark them using the [M]ark function.
  81. This allows tagging specific messages based upon the MARKED NUMBER, and
  82. NOT the actual message number.  Additional information on using the [M]ark
  83. feature is found when selecting that option.
