FRACTALWEAVE 2.0 Copyright (c) 1990, 1991 by James H. Price
All Rights Reserved.
Introduction:
FractalWeave is a unique graphics program, able to generate a
practically infinite variety of colorful, intricate, and incredibly
detailed screen images. The basic image is fractal in nature; however,
unlike other fractal-based programs, FractalWeave provides both rapid
image generation in a lively animated display, AND a very wide variety
of images.
What you got:
If you're reading this, you've already succeeded in extracting the
program from its ZIPed format. The package includes:
WEAVE.EXE The program itself
DEMO00.WVE Sample parameter files
DEMO01.WVE
DEMO02.WVE
DEMO03.WVE
WHATSNEW.DOC Enhancements from Version 1.1

System Requirements:
FractalWeave requires a 100% compatible EGA or VGA monitor to actually
perform the grpahics displays. The text screens are accessible with any
hardware.
The program was tested on a number of computers, but due to
the diversity of graphics cards and monitors, I don't guarantee the
program's performance on any given system. If you encounter
difficulties, I would like to hear about them. Please send as
much detail as possible, including type of monitor and graphics
card, amount of video memory, the problem encountered, and anything
else you think might be pertinent.
Using the Program:
************************************************************************
NOTE: Extensive on-line help is available by pressing 'H', or by
highlighting any menu item and pressing F1.
************************************************************************
1) Copy all the program files to a single directory (optional)
2) Type "WEAVE" to start the program.
3) Press 'W' to start the default display. During the display,
the following keys are active:
F changes foreground colors
<SHIFT>-F puts foreground color changes on automatic
B changes background colors
<SHIFT>-B puts background color changes on automatic
R restores default colors
<Spacebar> starts and stops the image motion
D slows down the motion (use repeatedly)
A restores the previous speed (use repeatedly)
P Save the current image as a PCX file
N Turns sound effects on and off.
Any other key exits the display.
4) To experiment with varying the display parameters, press A to
open the "Adjust Parameters" screen. You can vary the size, shape,
direction, speed, and initial position of the "fractal ball", as
well as the palette update rate and (if you have VGA), the display
mode. Use the arrow keys to highlight the item to change, enter a
value in the specified range, and press ─┘. When you're finished,
press 'W' to begin the display, or any other key to return to the
main menu.
5) The "Help" and "Quit" menu items should be pretty self-
explanatory. The remaining items are associated with saving and
restoring "image files" and "parameter files". Below are several
definitions which should explain this:
"fractal ball": this is the basic builing block which moves around
the screen and constructs the FractalWeave image.
"parameter file": the set of numbers which defines the fractal
ball can be saved in a file with a default ".WVE" extension.
You can save the parameters for a particularly handsome display
in a *.WVE flie, and restore them again at a later time. The
*.WVE files can also be used with the "FractalSave" screen saver
program (see below).
"image file": this is a standard PCX file which contains an
entire screen generated by FractalWeave. It also contains the
information necessary to reconstruct the fractal ball, and the
palette (color) information in use when the image was saved.
You can view these pictures with any PCX file viewer, (includ-
ing the specialized one built into FractalWeave), or edit them
with programs such as the Windows 3.0 Paintbrush program.
Distribution:
You may distribute the program with wild abandon, provided there is
no charge beyond a reasonable distribution fee, and the program is
distributed in its original ZIPPED format, including the demo disks and
documents.
Registration:
This is a shareware product. You may use it free for a short trial
period. If you continue to use the program, please register it.
Registration entitles you to technical support in the program's use,
notice of and reduced price for any upgrades, and that warm feeling of
personal satisfaction that comes from doing the proper and noble thing.
Note added to version 2.0:
Since that "warm feeling of personal satisfaction" business proved
to be an inadequate incentive for many, I'm offering an additional
reason to register this version:
Many people have requested a TSR screen saver version of
FractalWeave. I'm pleased to announce that just such a program
(called "FractalSave", of course) is now available. FractalSave is
a memory resident (TSR) program that monitors the keyboard and
mouse. If you haven't used the keyboard or moved your mouse for a
pre-set period of time (which you specify), FractalSave pops down
and runs one of YOUR favorite FractalWeave files. A touch of a key
returns you to your program.
FractalSave has both a text and graphics (FractalWeave) display. In
text mode, it runs on any IBM compatible machine; displaying
graphics images requires an EGA or VGA monitor. A hard disk is
recommended, but not required.
****************************************************************************
The shareware version of FractalSave is written in C and assembly
language, and requires approximately 19k of memory. The retail
version of FractalSave is written entirely in assembly language, and
requires approximately 4.5k of memory. The programs are
functionally identical.
THE DEAL: If you register FractalWeave, I'll send the shareware
version of FractalSave at no extra cost. For slightly more, I'll
send the retail version of FractalSave instead.
*****************************************************************************
What A Deal:
To register FractalWeave, send $15 to:
