  5. FractalWeave is a unique graphics program, able to generate a
  6. practically infinite variety of colorful, intricate, and incredibly
  7. detailed screen images.  The basic image is fractal in nature; however,
  8. unlike other fractal-based programs, FractalWeave provides both rapid
  9. image generation in a lively animated display, AND a very wide variety
  10. of images.

  13. What you got:

  15. If you're reading this, you've already succeeded in extracting the
  16. program from its ZIPed format.  The package includes:

  27. System Requirements:
  28.  
  29. FractalWeave requires a 100% compatible EGA or VGA monitor to actually
  30. perform the grpahics displays.    The text screens are accessible with any
  31. hardware.
  32.  
  33. The program was tested on a number of computers, but due to
  34. the diversity of graphics cards and monitors, I don't guarantee the
  35. program's performance on any given system.  If you encounter
  36. difficulties, I would like to hear about them.  Please send as
  37. much detail as possible, including type of monitor and graphics
  38. card, amount of video memory, the problem encountered, and anything
  39. else you think might be pertinent.

  42. Using the Program:

  46.     NOTE: Extensive on-line help is available by pressing 'H', or by
  47.     highlighting any menu item and pressing F1.

  52.     1) Copy all the program files to a single directory (optional)
  53.  
  54.     2) Type "WEAVE" to start the program.
  55.  
  56.     3) Press 'W' to start the default display.  During the display,
  57.     the following keys are active:
  58.  
  59.             F            changes foreground colors
  60.             <SHIFT>-F    puts foreground color changes on automatic
  61.             B            changes background colors
  62.             <SHIFT>-B    puts background color changes on automatic
  63.             R            restores default colors
  64.             <Spacebar>    starts and stops the image motion
  65.             D            slows down the motion (use repeatedly)
  66.             A            restores the previous speed (use repeatedly)
  67.             P            Save the current image as a PCX file
  68.             N            Turns sound effects on and off.
  69.  
  70.             Any other key exits the display.

  72.     4)    To experiment with varying the display parameters, press A to
  73.     open the "Adjust Parameters" screen.  You can vary the size, shape,
  74.     direction, speed, and initial position of the "fractal ball", as
  75.     well as the palette update rate and (if you have VGA), the display
  76.     mode.  Use the arrow keys to highlight the item to change, enter a
  77.     value in the specified range, and press ─┘. When you're finished,
  78.     press 'W' to begin the display, or any other key to return to the
  79.     main menu.

  81.     5)    The "Help" and "Quit" menu items should be pretty self-
  82.     explanatory.  The remaining items are associated with saving and
  83.     restoring "image files" and "parameter files".  Below are several
  84.     definitions which should explain this:
  85.  
  86.         "fractal ball": this is the basic builing block which moves around
  87.         the screen and constructs the FractalWeave image.
  88.  
  89.         "parameter file": the set of numbers which defines the fractal
  90.         ball can be saved in a file with a default ".WVE" extension.
  91.         You can save the parameters for a particularly handsome display
  92.         in a *.WVE flie, and restore them again at a later time.  The
  93.         *.WVE files can also be used with the "FractalSave" screen saver
  94.         program (see below).

  96.         "image file": this is a standard PCX file which contains an
  97.         entire screen generated by FractalWeave.  It also contains the
  98.         information necessary to reconstruct the fractal ball, and the
  99.         palette (color) information in use when the image was saved.
  100.         You can view these pictures with any PCX file viewer, (includ-
  101.         ing the specialized one built into FractalWeave), or edit them
  102.         with programs such as the Windows 3.0 Paintbrush program.

  105. Distribution:

  107. You may distribute the program with wild abandon, provided there is
  108. no charge beyond a reasonable distribution fee, and the program is
  109. distributed in its original ZIPPED format, including the demo disks and
  110. documents.

  115. This is a shareware product.  You may use it free for a short trial
  116. period.  If you continue to use the program, please register it.
  117.  
  118. Registration entitles you to technical support in the program's use,
  119. notice of and reduced price for any upgrades, and that warm feeling of
  120. personal satisfaction that comes from doing the proper and noble thing.

  123. Note added to version 2.0:

  125.     Since that "warm feeling of personal satisfaction" business proved
  126.     to be an inadequate incentive for many, I'm offering an additional
  127.     reason to register this version:

  129.     Many people have requested a TSR screen saver version of
  130.     FractalWeave. I'm pleased to announce that just such a program
  131.     (called "FractalSave", of course) is now available.  FractalSave is
  132.     a memory resident (TSR) program that monitors the keyboard and
  133.     mouse.    If you haven't used the keyboard or moved your mouse for a
  134.     pre-set period of time (which you specify), FractalSave pops down
  135.     and runs one of YOUR favorite FractalWeave files.  A touch of a key
  136.     returns you to your program.

  138.     FractalSave has both a text and graphics (FractalWeave) display.  In
  139.     text mode, it runs on any IBM compatible machine; displaying
  140.     graphics images requires an EGA or VGA monitor.  A hard disk is
  141.     recommended, but not required.

  145.     The shareware version of FractalSave is written in C and assembly
  146.     language, and requires approximately 19k of memory.  The retail
  147.     version of FractalSave is written entirely in assembly language, and
  148.     requires approximately 4.5k of memory.    The programs are
  149.     functionally identical.

  151.     THE DEAL: If you register FractalWeave, I'll send the shareware
  152.     version of FractalSave at no extra cost.  For slightly more, I'll
  153.     send the retail version of FractalSave instead.
