New features and improvements
SD can now display 2 directories simultaneously. Press ALT W to open
a new window. Each window is treated separately. You can copy or move
files between the different windows. The window sizes are fully
adjustable. Use the TAB key to change windows.
SD Now supports highlighted background colors on EGA and VGA monitors.
You are able to have colors you may have never seen before! Try
adjusting the mainscreen background color in the change color option in
the setup pull down menu.
SD now has much enhanced mouse usage. When a mouse driver is installed,
error messages allow mouse usage. The mouse tries to automatically
locate you where it thinks your next move will be.
Shadowed pull down menus are now used. Since the shadow is black, if you
use black as the background color, you may have a hard time seeing the
shadows.
The pull down menus have been redone. The Tree pull down menu is gone.
The tree options are now in the MORE pull down menu. There is a new
ZIP window that has options for working with .ZIP files.
Many new tagging options have been included.
The PKZIP and PKUNZIP windows have been redone and made more powerful.
A wipe directory option has been added to the tree display.
Nearly all user suggested options have been added.
SD now stores it's setup information at the end of the SD.EXE file so
it is compatible with the PKWARE compress EXE program. This allows the
SD.EXE file to be a compressed file that expands into memory when run.
PAGE 1
SD.EXE is a shareware product. If you find SD.EXE to be fast and
easy to use, a registration of $35.00 is suggested. With each
registration of $35, you will receive the next update of SD.EXE free
of charge. Please mention any features you would like added to SD,
and the version you are currently using. Wisconsin residents please
add 5% sales tax ($1.75).
Please support the shareware concept so that more programs like this
can be made available at a reasonable cost. The shareware concept
allows you to try the software before you buy it.

BASICS
Use UPARROW, DOWNARROW, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn to browse through the files.
To tag or untag a file, press Enter. You can also press SPACE.
Pressing Enter on a subdirectory will change to that subdirectory. To tag
a subdirectory (the only reason to do this is to change its attribute or
name) you must press the SPACE bar. To select an option such as DELETE or
HELP simply press the appropriate function key. If no mouse is installed,
the column to the right of where the files are displayed contains helpful
information. The highlighted letter is the shortcut key for that function.
From DOS, you may type SD or you may specify the filespec. To display only
.BAT files, you would type SD *.BAT. To use the Pull Down Menus, press
the TAB key, LEFTARROW, RIGHTARROW, or ALT + the capital letter on the
top of the screen. Arrow to the desired item, and press Enter to execute
that option. If you wish to toggle the value (like in the sort menu),
press the Space bar. Use the Esc key to exit from pop up windows or sub
menus. Press F10 to display the SD help screen for quick help.
SD does not limit the number of files you can read off the disk. The
number of files read is only limited by the amount of available memory.
A typical 640K machine with no TSR's can read several thousand files
per directory.
MOUSE
To tag a file, locate the mouse on top of that file and press the
leftmost mouse button. The leftmost mouse button always acts the same
as Enter. The rightmost mouse button always acts as Esc. If you have
a 3 button mouse, the middle button acts the same as the rightmost button.
To change to a different subdirectory, locate on top of that subdirectory
and click the leftmost button. When a mouse is installed, a mouse menu
appears to the right of where the files are displayed. Clicking on
one of these items is the same as pressing the appropriate function
key(s). To tag a directory, click immediately to the left of the
filename.
To use the pull down menus, click on the menu item desired on the top
row of the screen. Once a menu is displayed, click on the item you wish
to change.

SPECIAL MOUSE ITEMS
The mouse works just about everywhere. The "mouse menu" is located to
the right of the file list. You can click on any of these items instead
of using the pull down menus.
PGUP - Click on the bar above the file list to view the previous page.
PGDN - Click on the bar below the file list to view the next page.
UPARROW - Click on the arrow above the file list on the left side to
scroll the file list down.

scroll the file list up.
To go to the middle of the file list, click on the vertical bar to the
left of the file list, near the middle of the screen. You can quickly
view the file list by clicking on different spots to the left of the
file list. Be sure the mouse is in column zero. Clicking near the
bottom of the screen will locate you near the bottom of the file list.
PULL DOWN MENUS
Use the RIGHTARROW or LEFTARROW to pop up the pull down menus.
You may also use Alt + D,S,T,M,F,Z,P,X to bring up a specific menu. The
menu displayed at the top of the screen has one capital letter in each
word. Press Alt + the capital letter to pop up that menu. If you have
a mouse, click on the word on the top of the screen, and that menu will
pop up.
Once a menu is displayed, click on the item you would like to modify. In
the setup window, the items are toggled. In most other windows, the item
you click on will be executed.
PAGE 9
DOS MENU ITEMS
COPY (DOS MENU)
Copy works similarly to the DOS copy command. The copy function key
(F1) will only appear if there are files tagged. Pressing F1 will ask
you where you want to copy the tagged files to.
To copy the tagged files to drive A:, press F1 or C and then type
"A:" and press Enter.
To copy the tagged files to the \WORD directory, press F1 or C and then
type "\WORD" and press Enter.
If you are going to copy the tagged files to a different directory, on
the same disk drive, you may use the tree function. After tagging the
desired files, press F1 or C. Then press F2 to display the tree
structure of the current drive. Arrow to the directory where you want to
copy the files to, and press Enter.
If the destination disk is full, SD will ask you if you would like to
continue copying the remaining files. You may insert a different disk
at this time if you wish. Pressing Esc will abort the copy process.
If you wish to abort a copy, press Esc.
If you have 2 file windows open, and you wish to copy files to the
other window, this option will be displayed in the copy window.
You can press F1 to copy to the other window. If both file windows
are on the same drive and in the same directory, a copy would not be
legal since you cannot copy a file onto itself.
MOUSE
If you want to copy the tagged files to a floppy disk drive, simply
click on the desired item in the mouse menu (COPY A: etc.).
To copy to a certain subdirectory, click on "Dos" in the pull down menu,
click on "Copy", and then type in the desired drive and/or directory to
copy to, and press Enter.
To use the tree function, instead of typing in the directory to copy to,
click on the tree display line. Then select the directory to copy to by
clicking on the directory in the tree display.
If you don't want SD to overwrite existing files, there is an option for
this in the setup menu.
If you want SD to see if sufficient disk space is available on a floppy
disk before a copy or move, there is an option for this in the setup menu.
MOVE (DOS MENU)
Move works the same as copy, except that after the files are copied,
they are deleted.

that you would from the DOS prompt. If you have been to other drives or
directories while running SD, a menu will appear with the directories
you have previously been in. You can then modify these items if
necessary, or simply use the arrow keys to select the entry you wish to
change to and press ENTER. You may also save these item to disk for
future recall by pressing F1.
SHORTCUTS
If the subdirectory you wish to change to is a subdirectory of the
directory you are currently in, you may use the arrow keys to highlight
that subdirectory. Then press Enter to change to that subdirectory.
You may also use the tree command to quickly change directory. Press T
to invoke the tree command. A listing of all the subdirectories on the
disk will appear. Highlight the subdirectory you would like to change
to and press Enter.

Other options
Directory return
If YES is selected, SD will return you to the drive and
directory that you ran SD from. If NO is selected, SD will
exit to the current drive.
Auto sense drives
SD tries to detect all disk drives present when first run. This
can cause problems with some networks. Select NO if problems exist.
Use tree file
Rather than scan your entire disk for it's tree structure every
time you run SD, a file is created called SD.CFG, which contains
your tree structure. If you prefer to scan the disk instead of
using the CFG file, turn this option to NO.
Temp drive
Select a temporary directory to use. Necessary if you have a
write protected floppy.
Interface
Select the original SD function key menu or the SAA set.
Write to disk
Save the current configuration to disk. This is added to SD.EXE.
EXIT MENU
To exit SD, you can simply press ESC a few times. To exit to the current
directory, you can press CTRL X. To exit to the startup directory, press
ALT X. Where SD exits by pressing ESC can be set in the setup menu.
TREE MENU (Inside the TREE DISPLAY)
If the drive you wish to display is not the current drive, just press the
letter of the drive you wish to view. For example, press 'D' to view the
D: drive.
CHANGE DIRECTORY (TREE OPTIONS)
After entering the tree display by pressing 'T' or 'R', you can then
press RIGHTARROW to bring up the TREE OPTIONS pull down menu. To change
directory to a directory displayed in the tree, simply highlight it and
press the ENTER key.
REREAD TREE STRUCTURE (TREE OPTIONS)
If the tree display is not accurate, use this feature to re-scan the
disk for directories.
WIPE DIRECTORY (TREE OPTIONS)
Suppose you have a junk directory, with 3 subdirectories called JUNK1,
JUNK2, and JUNK3. You are done with these directories and wish to
delete all the files in these areas. Simply highlight the JUNK
directory, and press 'W'. SD will ask you to confirm this. SD will
then delete all the files in these directories, and then remove the
directories also.
PRINT TREE STRUCTURE
You can print the entire tree structure with this command. The printer
port used is the same port specified in the print files window. You
can toggle graphics print on or off.
