DISKETTE LABELING SYSTEM
(c) Copyright Samole and Hardcastle, 1988
What does the Diskette Labeling System (DLSSW) do??? DLSSW prints
custom labels for your diskettes that list file names, directory
names, extension names, file dates, and more! With a quick look at
your labelled diskette, you have all of this basic information
without booting your computer. It's as easy as looking at a table
of contents. Custom labels, available from Samole and Hardcastle,
are preprinted and precut to cover the entire diskette. DLSSW will
not write on your disk or diskette. DLSSW is a segment of a disk
reporting package which is currently under development and will be
made available commercially. By offering DLSSW as user-supported
software initially, we solicit your comments and questions. User
feedback makes good programs better.
LICENSE
DLSSW is a user-supported software package and is protected by
copyright. Individuals are granted permission to copy the DLSSW
diskette for their own evaluation or for others to evaluate, subject
to the following:
DLSSW must be copied in unmodified form, complete with the
documentation file which contains this license information,
The full DLSSW documentation must be included with the copy,
No fee, charge or other compensation may be accepted or
requested by any licensee, and
DLSSW may not be distributed in conjunction with any other
product.
After you have had a chance to use and evaulate the program in your
environment, you are trusted to forward a registration fee to Samole
and Hardcastle or to discontinue use of the program.
Registration permits a user to license to use DLSSW only on a single
computer; a registered user may use the program on a different
computer, but may not use the program on more than one computer at
the same time.
Operators of electronic bulletin board systems may post DLSSW for
downloading by their users as long as the above conditions are met.
WARRANTY
The program is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. All
risks as to the performance of the program and use are assumed by
you and not by Samole and Hardcastle. Under no circumstances will
Samole and Hardcastle (or its authorized distributor) be liable for
any damages, including lost profits, lost savings, or other
incidental or consequential damages, arising out of the use or
inability to use the program, or for any claim by any other party.
This document assumes you are familiar with the operation of the IBM
Personal Computer, or compatible, and IBM PC-DOS. If you have
difficulty with terms or command formats, refer to your DOS manuals
for more information.

Corporation. KEYBOARD OPERATION
TAB AND SHIFT-TAB KEYS
The TAB key moves the cursor forward from field to field.
Holding down the SHIFT key while pressing the TAB key will move
the cursor in the reverse direction.
BACKSPACE KEY
The BACKSPACE key (on the main keyboard, indicated by the word
"backspace" or an arrow pointing to the left, and NOT the "4"
key on the numeric keypad) is a destructive backspace key.
This means that as you press the BACKSPACE key, each previous
character is erased. Everything to the right of the cursor will
be shifted one character left.
HOME KEY
This key will take you to the home field of each screen. The
home field is usually the field where the cursor appears when
the screen image is first displayed - in this case, it is the
first choice the entry screens.
DEL KEY
The DELETE key deletes the character at the cursor position,
and moves all of the characters to the right of the cursor one
position to the left.
INS KEY
The INSERT key toggles the computer in and out of insert mode.
Each character typed while in insert mode will shift all
characters to the right of the cursor one position further to
the right.
Characters can be shifted off the end of the field. If this is
done, those characters can be recovered by using the DEL key or
the BACKSPACE key to remove some of the characters within the
field. NOTE: Once the cursor leaves the field, characters
shifted off the end of a field cannot be recovered.
ESC KEY
The ESCAPE key is used to restore the contents of a data item
if you mistakenly type over it. It will restore the original
contents of the field, provided you have not pressed a function
key or TABbed the cursor from the field. Once the cursor
leaves that data item, changes you made cannot be removed with
the ESC key.
CURSOR KEY
The cursor arrow keys operate as follows:
The left and right cursor arrow keys allow you to move the
cursor within a field.
The up and down cursor arrow keys operate similar to the TAB
and SHIFT-TAB keys, which move the cursor forward and backward
through the fields.
SUPPRESSING HIGH SPEED VIDEO
Systems which are MS-DOS compatible but cannot run programs such as
Microsoft's Flight Simulator, or which are running in a windowed
environment, may be incompatible with the high-speed memory-mapped
video routine used in this software.
These systems are supported using BIOS calls to provide screen
displays. This is specified with the DOS SET command:
SET IBMC=N
Machines which are fully compatible include the IBM PC/XT/AT/Jr.,
Compaq, AT&T 6300, ITT, and most others.
COLOR SUPPRESSION
If your machine has a color graphics adapter board but you are using
a monochrome monitor, you may have difficulty reading text on the
screen. This is a normal, although undesirable, result of using
this combination of hardware. You may have encountered this
difficulty while attempting to use other programs.
You can correct the problem by placing the following command in your
startup .BAT file, or by issuing it before you start (your
application). Use the following SET command:
SET IBMC=M
NON-IBM COLOR ADAPTERS
If you are using a non-IBM color monitor board, you may see faster
displays by issuing the following command. Note that if this
results in "snow" or "sparkle" when the image is being displayed,
you should not set this parameter.
SET IBMC=F
SUPPRESSING BEEPS
If you dislike the beeps that are sounded as each new screen is
displayed, you may suppress them by typing the following command
before you invoke the application:
SET IBMC=Q
MULTIPLE SUPPRESSIONS
You may select more than one of these options by combining them in
any order into one SET command as follows:
SET IBMC=QM
SCREEN DESCRIPTIONS
FUNCTION KEYS
The following function keys provide movement between the DLSSW
screens and actions:
F1 - SETUP SCREEN
F2 - PRINTER ALIGNMENT
F3 - REMARKS
F4 - PRINT LABEL
F10 - QUIT
SETUP SCREEN (DLSSW3)
The setup screen is your most versatile screen. It contains options
for disk drives, file, extension and directory names, hidden files
and an option for printing only selected extension names on the
label.
REMARKS SCREEN (DLSSW1)
The remarks screen allows you to enter text to be printed in the
remarks section of the label. You may enter up to four (4) lines of
22 characters each.
ALIGNMENT SCREEN (DLSSW2)
This screen allows you to check your printer's alignment. A box is
printed in the top left-hand corner of the label. When you enter a
number in this screen, DLSSW adjusts the left margin and immediately
prints a letter X. (DLSSW does not print the remainder of the label
at this time.) You can then adjust the label's position so that the
X appears in the box. This option can be repeated until you are
satisfied with the positioning.
