FOR CHILDREN OF
Even if your parents don't belong to any of the businesses or
unions listed in the last two chapters, you might be able to take
advantage of their job. Various public and private sources of
financial aid are available to you simply because you are the child of
a police officer, firefighter, or veteran. But your parent doesn't
need to have such a dangerous job. There are even groups who want to
help the children of cranberry growers and migrant farmers to get a
college education. To qualify for some of these scholarships you need
to prove you're needy or your parent must have died in the line of
duty or in action. For others, though, the requirements are less
stringent. If you find your parent's job listed here, write to the
sponsoring groups to find out exactly how you qualify.
