In an Auction League players are acquired in an auction with the money resulting from that auction, along with fees for player trades, free agent signings and roster moves being put into a prize fund. At the end of the season the prize fund is divided among the top finishers in the league. There is also an option for WEEKLY cash prizes in an Auction league. A DRAFT LEAGUE is a just for fun league. There are no fees collected or prizes distributed in a Draft League. Players are acquired in an annual round-by-round player draft with the drafting order being the reverse order of last year's finish. Batting Average is the total number of team at hits divided by the total number of team at bats. Batting Average is a "STANDARD" fantasy baseball statistic and is used by most leagues. Runs Batted In (RBI) is the total number of runs driven in by your team members. Runs Batted In is a "STANDARD" fantasy baseball statistics and is used by most leagues. Homeruns is the total number of homeruns hit by all members of your team. Homeruns is a "STANDARD" fantasy baseball statistic and is used by most leagues. Stolen Bases (SB) is the total number of bases stolen by all members of your team. Stolen Bases is a "STANDARD" fantasy baseball statistics and is used by most leagues. Slugging Percentage (SLG) is Total Bases (TB) divided by total At Bats (AB). This reflects the average number of bases per At Bat. Slugging Percentage is an "OPTIONAL" stat as opposed to the "STANDARD" 8 stats used by most leagues. Runs Scored (R) is the total number of Runs Scored by a team's members. Runs Scored is an "OPTIONAL" stat as opposed to the "STANDARD" 8 stats used by most leagues. Pitcher's Wins is the total number of wins registered by a team's pitchers. Wins is a "STANDARD" stat and is used by most leagues. Pitcher's Saves (SV) reflects the number of games "saved" by relief pitchers. Saves is a "STANDARD" stat and is used by most leagues. Pitcher's ERA reflects the average number of earned runs given up by pitchers per 9 innings pitched. ERA is a "STANDARD" stat and is used by most leagues. Pitcher's Ratio reflects the number of base runners allowed by pitchers on hits and base on balls per inning pitched. Ratio is a "STANDARD" stat and is used by most leagues. STRIKEOUTS can be configured 2 ways, as STRIKEOUTS they represent the total number of strikeouts without regard to innings pitched. This has a tendency to give an advantage to starting pitchers as they get many more strikeouts. Many leaguesbelieve Pitcher's Win/Loss Ratio reflects pitcher's winning percentages. Win/Loss Ratio is an "OPTIONAL" stat as opposed to the "STANDARD" 8 stats. Using this option will activate all 30 of your roster spots after September 1. Only Farm System players' stats will not count after this date if you answer 'YES'. Move the highlight using the LEFT & RIGHT ARROW Keys. Press <ENTER> to select. The USA TODAY UPDATE is done once per week using the USA TODAY (or any newspaper that publishes the season total stats). The BOX SCORE UPDATE is done daily using the single game box scores in your local paper. LineDrive supports leagues of from 2 to 15 teams. Input the drive and directory that will hold your data files. If in doubt use the default directory or consult your MS-DOS Manual under PATH. There is not enough space on the disk for a league of the size indicated. There are tips in the README.1st file on freeing up additional disk space. How long will each team "own" it's players? A player reaching the end of his contract can be re-signed once (auction leagues only) or is eligible to be drafted by another team in the next player draft. How much is the increase per year of contract extension. For example: If you choose $5 per year and you sign a player whose current contract is $10 to a 3 year extension, his contract would become $25 (10+5+5+5) per year. Input the amount that a team may spend during the auction. This amount includes the salaries of players who are carried over from previous years. If you choose $350 and your team carries over $100 in last years salaries you would have $250 to spend. Input the amount that your league will charge each team involved in a trade regardless of the number of players traded. Input the fee that the league charges for signing a free agent. Note that this is in addition to the player's salary. A ROSTER MOVE FEE is charged when a player is moved from the Farm System to the Major League Roster regardless of whether the moving player becomes an active or starting lineup player. Weekly payoffs are based on a team's performance LAST WEEK ONLY as opposed to season total stats. Team members contribute toward last week's stats only if they were in a starting position. How many weeks are in the season this year. The easiest way to determine this is by counting the total number of Wednesdays (NL stat day) on the calendar during this season. How much will this place pay each week? Keep in mind that the total of all 3 places times the number of weeks in the season must be less than the Auction Spending Limit times the number of teams in the league. This amount is intended to pay back the person who is purchasing LineDrive and is NOT added to the prize fund. The amount shown will be added to the amount owed by each team in the newsletter. Use the LEFT & RIGHT ARROW keys to change menus. Use the UP & DOWN ARROW KEYS to move highlight. Press <ENTER> to select. The STATISTICAL UPDATE option is used to bring player stats current. You may elect to split your update into several sessions. If you choose NOT to begin the next team you will begin where you left off in the next session. * SELECT TEAM * this option allows you to select the team you wish to work with. You must select a team before selecting any other option on the MANAGER'S OPTIONS menu. * VIEW STARTING LINEUP * this option allows you to view your team's starters in order. Useful in determining whether or not your roster is complete or for assessing strengths and weaknesses. * VIEW ENTIRE ROSTER * allows you to see your entire roster including reserve & farm players. * INDIVIDUAL PLAYER OPTIONS * will allow you to view a player's stats or contract status, extend a player's contract, release a player, change a player's position or change his major league team in the event of a trade. * PRINT OUT ROSTER * this option allows you to print out your choice of player statistics or player contract status for all the players on your team. * SIGN FREE AGENT * allows you to sign players overlooked in the draft, players who were released by another team or players brought up from the minors after the season began. There are some important rules for free agents in {3.40}. * TRADE PLAYERS * allows you to trade players with another team. There are some important rules on players trades in {3.50}. Make sure you are familiar with these rules before conducting your first trade. * CALCULATE LEAGUE STANDINGS * will determine your league standings for the season to date and at the same time calculate last week's standing for your weekly payoff if appropriate. * PRINT NEWSLETTER * will print your season & weekly standings, any transactions that have taken place since the last newsletter, any fees due to the prize fund and the league records weeks in all statistical categories. * PLAYER SEARCH * will search all rosters in the league for the player that you specify. Useful in determining if another team already owns a prospective free agent or quickly locating a player to edit his stats or change his major league team. * VIEW LEAGUE RECORDS * allows you to view the best and worst performances by teams in any reporting period since the league began. * RESET DATE * allows you to set the date in case your computer's clock calendar is incorrect. * HOLD PLAYER DRAFT * (or auction) begins the player draft or auction. The draft or auction can be split over several sessions if necessary. * PRIZE FUND OPTIONS * allows you to take care of accounts receivable, view team expenditures to date or view how much each team has won to date in weekly prizes. * CLOSE OUT SEASON * this option closes out all player statistics in preparation for next season. You MUST use this option before beginnig a new season. * REGISTER LINEDRIVE * this option prints out a registration form that you will send to MCS along with your check or money order. If you wish to purchase the program using a major credit card you may do so by calling 1-800-242-4PsL. * EXIT TO DOS * will exit LineDrive and return you to your computer's operating system. * LEAGUE EDITOR * will allow you add expansion teams, delete teams or edit team names or owner names in case of an ownership change. Answer 'YES' if the Major League season is under way. You will then be asked for each player's stats to date as he is drafted. You will get credit in league standings for all statisitics from this point forward. LineDrive has detected statistics in the player files. Choose 'END SEASON' from COMMISSIONER'S OPTIONS to reset the player's files in preparation for a new draft or auction. Use the UP & DOWN ARROW Keys to highlight the team you wish to work with. Press <ENTER> to select. Teams are allowed to carry 18 players into the player draft. This team's roster exceeds the 18 player limit. You may press <ESC> and remedy this situation by using RELEASE PLAYER under IND. PLAYER OPTIONS, or you may press any key to roster check. This team's roster exceed the 18 man limit. Use RELEASE PLAYER under IND. PLAYER OPTIONS to get down to the 18 man limit before beginning your draft or auction. This team has already spent more than the agreed on auction spending limit on salaries of players carried into the draft! Use RELEASE PLAYER under IND. PLAYER OPTIONS to reduce player salaries to an acceptable amount. If you choose not to begin another round at this point you may select 'NO' and press <ENTER>. LineDrive will continue your player draft from this point the next time that you select PLAYER DRAFT. Use this option to select a player to add to your team. * VIEW STARTERS * allows you to view only those players that you have assigned to a starting position. This allows you to scan the team for positions that need to be filled or for weak spots that you would like to bolster. * VIEW ROSTER * allows you to view your entire roster including reserve players and farm system players. Useful in determining how many roster spots you have left open or accessing depth in a given area. * TRADE PLAYERS * allows you to trade players with another team. See LD.DOC {3.50} for important considerations on player trades. The player search allows you to scan every roster in your league for a player. Useful in determining if a prospective choice has bee previously claimed by another club. This option allows you to change the team making the choice. Use this option if a team has traded away a draft choice. Normal draft order will resume on the next round. * QUIT DRAFTING * choosing this option will present you with another sub-menu that will allow you to renter the draft (if this option was choosen by mistake), quit for the day (if you have run out of time for today), or close out the draft. Select the Major League team that this player plays for. Use the UP, DOWN, LEFT & RIGHT ARROW Keys to move highlight. Press <ENTER> to select. Choose a position for this player. If a player already occupies this position he will be assigned to RESERVE if a reserve spot is open or to the Farm System if all reserve spots are full. Input the total stats for this season to date. Your team will get credit in the standings for any stats accrued after this date while this player occupies an active position. * CONTINUE DRAFT * use this option to go back into the draft if you ended up at this menu by mistake or change your mind about quitting. * QUIT FOR TODAY * use this option if you have run out of time for the day and you want to come back and continue the draft at another time. Drafting order will be maintained for draft leagues. * CLOSE OUT DRAFT (or auction) * will close out the draft and allow you to begin your season. NOTE: You MUST close out your player draft or auction before beginning your league play. Input the name or part of a name that you want to search for. The search is not case sensitive. A search for WIL would turn up WILl Clark, Matt WILliams and Steve WILson. Select 'YES' if you want to continue searching for another occurance of the string that you specified. LineDrive allows a player's contract to be extended only once. Input 'N' if this player's contract has never been extended by this team. Input 'Y' if the contract has been extended. How was this player acquired? For example "TRADE WITH THE TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRDS" or "SIGNED AS FREE AGENT". You can leave this field blank if you wish. It has no function in the program other than for your information. You must close out your player draft before updating stats. Return to the player auction, choose any team, select QUIT DRAFTING and then select CLOSE OUT DRAFT. Tag the players you wish to trade by marking them with the <ENTER> key. If you make a mistake the player may be 'un-marked' in the same way. Press <ESC> when you have marked all the players you want to trade. You must select a team before using this option. Use SELECT TEAM the first option under MANAGER'S OPTIONS to select the team you want to work with. that this overcomes many advantages that relief pitches already have. If you choose STRIKEOUT PCT., the stat becomes an average number of strikeouts per 9 innings pitched which nullifies any advantage starters would have. Use the UP & DOWN ARROW Key to highlight either STRIKEOUTS or STRIKEOUTS PER ( INNINGS PITCHED and press <ENTER> to select. that this overcomes many advantages that relief pitches already have. If you choose STRIKEOUT PCT., the stat becomes an average number of strikeouts per 9 innings pitched which nullifies any advantage starters would have. If you answer 'YES' you will automatically subtract the weekly winnings from your prize fund. A 'NO' answer will return you to the main menu without subtracting the winnings and allow you to re-calculate the standings if you wish. This option allows you to determine how much money each team has spent this season in pursuit of the pennant. Best not to let the wife see this one. This option will reveal how much each team has won this season in weekly purses.(Auction Leagues only). Allows you to see the amount of money in the prize fund, how much remains to be paid in weekly purses and how the remaining money would be distributed should the season end today. Accounts Receivable allows you to account for payments made to the prize fund by teams and to credit their accounts. Return to LineDrive's main menu. View Stats allows you to see the selected player's statistics broken down into SEASON TOTAL, ACTIVE, BENCH and LAST WEEK. Use this option to move the player to another position, the bench (reserve) or the minor leagues (farm). This option allows you to sign the player to an extended contract (Auction Leagues Only) his salary will increase according to the Annual Salary Increase you determined in the setup procedure. Use this option to release this player as a free agent. He may be claimed by any other team after he is released. Change Major League Team allows you to move this player to another team in case he plays out his option or is traded by his real-life team. This will keep the player in the proper order for the stat update. Use this option to change a team or owner name in case an owner quits or sells his club. Use this option to expand your league. Use this option to delete a team in case some poor shmuck gets run over by a train. (We know that NOBODY ever quits a fantasy league.) Return to LineDrive's main menu.
