  29. TRAP0002 ( 0002 ):                                                              
  30. (The following excerpt is from the PS/2 Trap or NMI Error                       
  31.  Guidelines Record # H083121)                                                   
  32. Memory failures running under OS/2 could display a TRAP0002 or a                
  33. TRAP000C error message.  The OS/2 error message will inform the                 
  34. user that the operating system has detected a hardware memory                   
  35. error on the system board or on an option card, in many cases.                  
  36.

  38. The most common type of TRAP0002 error is caused by memory, but                 
  39. it may on some occasions be caused by a system board or a                       
  40. micro channel adapter failure.  It may also be caused by other                  
  41. hardware error or software errors.

  43. A new Service Aid Diskette Utility ( SAD ) is now available                     
  44. which will provide additional help in determining which of                      
  45. four possible causes of a TRAP0002 error has occurred.                          
  46. ....                                                                            
  47. The four causes of a TRAP0002 error are:                                        
  48. 110 Error - System Board memory Parity Error                                    
  49. 111 Error - Memory Expansion Adapter Parity Error                               
  50. 112 Error - Watchdog Timer Error (Could be Hardware or Software)                
  51. 113 Error - DMA Arbitration Error(Could be Hardware or Software)                
  52. ********                                                                        
  53. Microsoft ( MS ) LAN MANAGER Version 2.2 is required in order                   
  54. to run under OS/2 2.0, per MS.  If customer is running LAN MAN                  
  55. 2.0, a device driver error may be generated at boot time from                   
  56. the config.sys stating problems loading the NETBEUI.OS2 driver.                 
  57. The interim workaround for running a release below 2.2 would be                 
  58. to run from a VMB ( Virtual Machine Boot ).  MS Lan Mgr 2.2 is                  
  59. not yet available as of 5/20/92.  Customer should be directed                   
  60. to contact Microsoft for availability of LANMAN 2.2.

  62. Other workarounds reported to us are:                                           
  63. Use a DOS lan requestor with a MS lan man server -- or --                       
  64. Use IBM Lan Server 2.0 requestor code with a MS lan man                         
  65. server.

  67. Intermitten hangs with SEAGATE ST02 Controller.                                 
  68. Investigation has shown that this card cannot be used                           
  69. with OS/2 2.0.  Customer have been recommended to                               
  70. replace this card with a 16 bit controller card.

  72. Hangs and intermitten problem with CORE 1GB harddrive                           
  73. and IBM SCSI adapter.  Problem is being investigated by                         
  74. IBM hardware support.  Contact them.

  76. Hangs and traps on Mod 90 and 95                                                
  77. Memory SIMMS must match on these systems, this includes                         
  78. memory speed, size and manufacture.                                             
  79. Also the Right memory card ( closest to the power supply )                      
  80. must be completely empty or completely populated.

  84. Reported by customer who confirmed with Northgate:                              
  85. Northgate 386/33's that contain up to 8 meg on the                              
  86. motherboard and require a daughter card for 9-16 meg                            
  87. may have a defect in the daughter card that causes                              
  88. a trap 0002 in OS/2 2.0. The problem arises when more                           
  89. than 12 meg is on the system, and only occurs on a                              
  90. 32 bit operating system. OS/2 2.0 should run OK with                            
  91. 12 meg. The customer purchased his system in 1989.                              
  92. The motherboard was made by Motherboard Factory.

  94. Intermittent hangs and traps. Sometimes trap 000D ,                             
  95. sometimes trap 000E .                                                           
  96. Although this could be a number of things, recommend the                        
  97. following:                                                                      
  98. - Disable cache                                                                 
  99. - Disable shadow RAM                                                            
  100. - If customer has AMI BIOS disable "hidden refresh" and                         
  101.   "fast decode enable"                                                          
  102. - Change the wait states.

  104. Trap running DOS application where CS varies but IP                             
  105. is 000006C5. This can be corrected by setting                                   
  106. MOUSE_EXCLUSIVE_ACCESS=ON for each DOS session.

  108. On Compaq Laptops,the PWRCON.EXE from the User Programs Diskette                
  109. for OS/2 Version 1.x, is not supported under OS/2 2.0.                          
  110. PWRCON is a program to allow a user to control power                            
  111. conservation on a battery operated system. It can be run from                   
  112. Config.sys, Startup.cmd or manually started.                                    
  113. This program is not supported currently under OS/2 2.0. If the                  
  114. disk is formatted HPFS, it can cause the following trap                         
  115. when the laptop automatic screen blank out occurs on a Compaq                   
  116. LTR Lite 25: Trap 000E CS:EIP 0160 : FFF65898.
