  32. To play the Full Court Press Trial Version, you need:
  33.  
  34. * A 486/66 computer or better with a 256-color display (Pentium 90 computer or better 
  35. recommended)
  36. * Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
  37. * A 2X CD-ROM drive or faster to play from a compact disc
  38. * 8 MB of memory (RAM) (16+ MB recommended)
  39. * 25 MB of available hard disk space (60 MB recommended)
  40. * A sound board plus speakers or headphones to hear audio
  41. * 14,400 baud modem for modem play (28,800 baud modem recommended)
  42. * A Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
  43. * Joystick or gamepad recommended
  44.  
  45. Note: The Full Court Press Trial Version requires Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 
  46. NT 4.0. To purchase a Windows upgrade, see your local retailer.

  48. Enhancing Performance
  49. =========================================================
  50. You can enhance the performance of both single and multiplayer games by doing any or 
  51. all of the following:
  52.  
  53. * Close any open applications.
  54. * Be sure that you are not logged on to a network.
  55. * Change the game resolution to 640X480. 
  56. * If you have applications that bring up pre-scheduled notifications, you should turn 
  57. them off before playing the Full Court Press Trial Version full-screen mode.

  60. B. Installation and DirectX
  61. =========================================================
  62.  
  63. Setup installs the Full Court Press Trial Version and DirectX drivers to your hard drive.
  64. The Full Court Press Trial Version requires these drivers to run. If you install different
  65. video drivers after installing the Full Court Press Trial Version, you may have problems
  66. running the Full Court Press Trial Version.
  67.  
  68. If you are using a 2x CD-ROM drive, you should do a Typical or Custom installation for 
  69. better performance.
  70.  
  71. If you are using 16-bit CD-ROM drivers for your CD-ROM, Autorun may not work 
  72. properly. To manually run setup, double-click on the Setup icon in your C or D drive 
  73. (your CD-ROM drive) to start installation.

  76. C.  Audio Troubleshooting
  77. =========================================================

  79. If the Full Court Press Trial Version does not play sound properly, first verify that: 
  80. * You've correctly installed your Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 sound drivers.
  81. * Your speakers are on and turned up.
  82. * The Windows 95 volume control is enabled and turned up, and that the Mute checkbox 
  83. isn't selected. 
  84.  
  85. If the Full Court Press Trial Version still doesn't play sound properly, verify that
  86. Windows 95 can play .wav files:
  87.      1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  88.      2. Double-click the Sounds icon.
  89.      3. Under Events, click an event that has a loudspeaker icon next to it.
  90.      4. In the Name text box, be sure that the three-letter file extension is ".wav".
  91.      5. Under Preview, click the play button. You should hear a sound.
  92.  
  93. If you don't hear any sound, or if Windows 95 is not able to play a .wav file, check to see 
  94. that a sound driver is enabled:
  95.      1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  96.      2. Double-click the System icon.
  97.      3. Click the Device Manager tab.
  98.      4. Click the plus sign next to Sound, Video And Game Controllers.
  99.      5. If there is no sound, video and game controllers entry, or you have no 
  100.           sound card listed under this entry, contact the manufacturer of the 
  101.           computer or sound card and request help for reinstalling the sound card 
  102.           drivers.
  103.  
  104. If you are able to play a .wav file in Windows 95, be sure that sounds are enabled and 
  105. recognized in the Full Court Press Trial Version:
  106.      1. Start the Full Court Press Trial Version.
  107.      2. On the Start Up screen, click Options, and then click Sound.
  108.      3. Make sure that all the red sliders are at least halfway over, and then click OK.
  109.      4. To check whether the Full Court Press Trial Version will play a sound file, begin an 
  110.       arcade game by clicking the Single Game button from the Startup screen, then 
  111.       choosing Play Game.
  112.  
  113. If you are using Windows NT 4.0, the sound may be choppy during setup, but will work 
  114. normally while you are running the Full Court Press Trial Version.
  115.  
  116. You can install higher quality sounds from the Custom installation option.
  117.

  119. D.  Video Troubleshooting
  120. =========================================================

  122. Displaying 256 Colors
  123. =========================================================
  124. Your computer must display 256 colors to run the Full Court Press Trial Version.
  125.  
  126. If you don't have the necessary 256-color driver, or if you aren't sure that your video card 
  127. supports 256 colors, contact your video card manufacturer.
  128.  
  129. To display 256 colors in Windows 95:
  130.      1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  131.      2. Double-click the Display icon.
  132.      3. Click the Settings tab.
  133.      4. In the Color Palette drop-down list, click 256 Color.
  134.      5. Click OK.
  135.  
  136. DirectX Display Problems
  137. =========================================================
  138. Note: The Full Court Press Trial Version uses DirectX 2.0 technology. In some cases, the 
  139. DirectX video driver may not interact correctly with your video driver. If you experience 
  140. display problems, contact your video card manufacturer for the latest DirectX 2.0 drivers, 
  141. or find an appropriate driver on our web site at http://www.microsoft.com/sports/baskball.

  143. If you experience display problems, contact your video card manufacturer for the latest 
  144. DirectX 2.0 drivers. If you continue to experience problems with DirectX 2.0 installed, 
  145. try the following procedures:
  146.      1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  147.      2. Double-click the Display icon.
  148.      3. Click the Settings tab.
  149.      4. Click Change Display Type to display the Advanced Display Properties dialog box.
  150.      5. Click the Adapter tab. If there is no Adapter tab, see the next procedure.
  151.      6. In the Refresh rate box, change the refresh rate, and then click OK.
  152.  
  153. If your screen is unreadable and you are unable to follow the preceding steps, try the 
  154. following troubleshooting steps:
  155.      1. Restart your computer in safe mode by pressing F8 when you see the message 
  156.           "Starting Windows 95."
  157.      2. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  158.      3. Double-click the Display icon.
  159.      4. Click the Settings tab.
  160.      5. Click Change Display Type to display the Change Display Type dialog box.
  161.      6. Under Adapter Type, click Change.
  162.      7. In the Select Device dialog box, select the DirectX-compatible video driver 
  163.           suggested by your video card manufacturer. If you do not have a DirectX-
  164.           compatible video driver, contact your video card manufacturer for an updated 
  165.           video driver.
  166.      8. Restart your computer to apply the change you have made, and then start the Full
  167.       Court Press Trial Version.
  168.      9. Reinstall your video drivers. Note, that the Full Court Press Trial Version will 
  169.       not run without DirectX drivers.
  170.  
  171. You may not be able to switch between full-screen mode and a window with a menu bar 
  172. with some video cards at some resolutions. If this happens, try using a lower game 
  173. resolution.  Or to achieve the best display without using full-screen mode, set your game 
  174. resolution to be the same as your screen resolution.  
  175.  
  176. If you consistently cannot get a game started, DirectX may be having problems with your 
  177. video drivers. Try the following procedures to work around these problems:
  178.  
  179. * Change your DirectDraw settings (the Full Court Press Trial Version will run
  180. in a slower display mode, but it may enable you to play):
  181.      1. On the Start menu, click Run.
  182.      2. In the Open text box, type REGEDIT, and then click OK.
  183.      3. In order, click the plus signs next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, 
  184.           Microsoft, Games, NBA Full Court Press, and 96-97, and then click Graphics.
  185.      4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  186.      5. Type DIRECTDRAW, and then press ENTER.
  187.      6. Double-click DIRECTDRAW.
  188.      7. Under Value Data, type 1, and then click OK.
  189.  
  190. * Contact your video card manufacturer for updated DirectX drivers.
  191.  
  192. The Nexgen 586 system doesn't support DirectX, and therefore will not run the Full Court 
  193. Press Trial Version. More information may be available on the AMD World Wide Web site at

  196. Video Cards That Don't Support The Full Court Press Trial Version
  197. =================================================================
  198. If you are using any of the following cards or processors, you may experience problems 
  199. when playing the Full Court Press Trial Version. If you experience any of the following
  200. problems, please contact your hardware manufacturer for the latest DirectX 2.0 video drivers:
  201.  
  202. * Boca SXVGA5-CLGD5424
  203. * Trident 9440
  204. * # 9 Imagine 128
  205. * Diamond Stealth 64 Video 3400XL S3 Vision 968
  206. * Diamond Speedstar 64 PCI Cirrus CLGD-5434
  207. * SDIS Weitek 9100
  208. * Any video card using the Hornet Tender Pro video chip
  209. * Any video card using the Nvidia chip
  210. * Matrox Impression: display problems
  211. * Ensoniq Soundscape: If you're having problems installing the Full Court Press Trial Version
  212. with the Ensoniq Soundscape, and you know there is nothing wrong with the sound card, try 
  213. changing the synth routing:
  214.      1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  215.      2. Double-click System.
  216.      3. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.
  217.      4. Under Sound, Video and Game Controllers, click the plus sign. There should be 
  218.           an Ensoniq Soundscape card listed. Click it, and then click Properties.
  219.      5. In the Ensoniq Soundscape dialog box, click the DOS Settings tab.
  220.      6. Under Synth Routing, make sure Internal is selected.
  221.      7. Close all dialog boxes, then restart your computer and try to reinstall the Full Court 
  222.           Press Trial Version.

  225. E. Multiplayer Troubleshooting
  226. =========================================================
  227.  
  228. Network and modem games work best when you choose the Typical installation option 
  229. during the Full Court Press Trial Version setup.
  230.  
  231. During a modem multiplayer game, it may take the client machine (machine that joins 
  232. the game) a few minutes to download the stats and settings of the game to be played. 
  233.  
  234. If you have problems with modem games, reconfigure your modem as a standard 28,800 
  235. baud or 14,400 baud modem instead of any modem-specific configuration you may be 
  236. using.
  237.  
  238. Changing controllers in the middle of a multiplayer game may cause you to lose game 
  239. synchronization. You can, however, change the configuration of your controllers.
  240.  
  241. During a Multiplayer game, the game may pause, even though no one has intentionally 
  242. paused the game. A "Pause" message may or may not appear in the title bar of the game 
  243. play window. The Full Court Press Trial Version is synchronizing the game among the users.
  244. Usually the game will unpause itself once it has synchronized the users. If the game does 
  245. not unpause after about 10 seconds, try manually unpausing it by pressing the PAUSE key.
  246.  
  247. If you do not have enough hard drive space to install the Full Court Press Trial Version,
  248. you may get the following error messgae during installation: "Can't load <filename> Place 
  249. the Full Court Press compact disc in the CD-ROM drive. If it is already in the drive, run
  250. Setup again to fix your installation." The Full Court Press Trial Version is trying to 
  251. load this file, but you may not have enough room on your hard drive to create any new 
  252. swap files. Make sure you have enough space on your hard drive, then try reinstalling.

  255. F.  In-Game Control Keys
  256. =========================================================
  257.  
  258. During arcade gameplay, the following keys can be used to execute the following functionality:
  259.     Escape:    To launch the Game Management screen
  260.     Space:    To remove the between-quarter score panels
  261.     F4:      To change your view from windowed to full screen mode (and back)
  262.     F12:    To turn the Scoreboard ON and OFF
  263.     Alt+B:    To zoom in your view if you are in windowed mode
