The halls, [ITAL]which are of a high standard with good amenities and truly edible food[EITAL], are on 2 [ITAL]pleasant [EITAL]green sites, both about 3 miles from campus. The larger,[ITAL] with a strong community atmosphere[EITAL], is Carnatic, with 6 halls of about 250 spaces each. The other is Greenbank [ITAL]with a social life all of its own [EITAL]and 2 halls of about 500 each. Buses go to and from the halls in the mornings and evenings. 2 halls, both on Carnatic, are single sex (1 male, 1 female), but otherwise they're mixed. There's no sharing. A very limited number of 2nd and 3rd years can apply to live in the halls too and play parent to the 1st years and take responsibility for the well-being of their hall as a 'senior student'. But generally, if 2nd and 3rd years live in University accommodation (and only about 7% do), it's usually in the self-catering accommodation. [ITAL]A word of warning [EITAL]- Liverpool has, in the past, been one of the places where, students start their University careers sleeping on table tennis tables and the like. It's not that the accommodation's bad, it's just that a lot of it is in family homes, which may well be just your cup of tea, so long as you like drinking it out of other people's cups with pinkie cocked. Other alternatives, of varying standards, are available. Some areas have developed as decidedly studenty, such as Wavertree (a veritable student ghetto), Sefton Park (more expensive, but arty, converted flats), Allerton, Mossley Hill, Lark Lane, Tuebrook, Old Swan and the famous Penny Lane. Some areas are less salubrious, such as Everton, Toxteth, and Kensington, but students do live there quite happily.
