The halls, [ITAL][PARA]which are of a high standard with good amenities and truly edible [PARA]food[EITAL], are on 2 [ITAL]pleasant [EITAL]green sites, both about 3 miles from [PARA]campus. The larger,[ITAL] with a strong community atmosphere[EITAL], is [PARA]Carnatic, with 6 halls of about 250 spaces each. The other is [PARA]Greenbank [ITAL]with a social life all of its own [EITAL]and 2 halls of about 500[PARA]each. Buses go to and from the halls in the mornings and [PARA]evenings. 2 halls, both on Carnatic, are single sex (1 male, 1 [PARA]female), but otherwise they're mixed. There's no sharing. A very[PARA]limited number of 2nd and 3rd years can apply to live in the halls [PARA]too and play parent to the 1st years and take responsibility for the [PARA]well-being of their hall as a 'senior student'. But generally, if 2nd [PARA]and 3rd years live in University accommodation (and only about [PARA]7% do), it's usually in the self-catering accommodation. [ITAL]A word [PARA]of warning [EITAL]- Liverpool has, in the past, been one of the places [PARA]where, students start their University careers sleeping on table [PARA]tennis tables and the like. Some areas have developed as [PARA]decidedly studenty, such as Wavertree (a veritable student [PARA]ghetto), Sefton Park (more expensive, but arty, converted flats), [PARA]Allerton, Mossley Hill, Lark Lane, Tuebrook, Old Swan and the [PARA]famous Penny Lane. Some areas are less salubrious, such as [PARA]Everton, Toxteth, and Kensington, but students do live there quite [PARA]happily.
