The rest are mostly 'home students', ie. they live either with their parents or in their own homes. The halls of residence (all catered except Maclay Hall) are all within 20 minutes walking distance of the campus, with the exception of Wolfson Hall, 3 miles away, which has a University-run shuttle bus. There are 11 Student Houses, housing between 8 and 28 students in self-catering places. 60% of these hall and house places are shared (ie. most 1st years). There are 1,875 places in flats which the University rents to students on a private basis but on [ITAL]favourable [EITAL]terms (housing 1st years and about 16% of the 3rd and 4th years). There are also 70 flats for couples (140 places) and, just opened, a new student village (1,100 places) with a shop 15 minutes walk from the campus (downhill) and 25 minutes back (uphill). [ITAL]All very posh. [EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Car parking:[EBOLD] Parking for residents only is limited but adequate. Around September, all the students who don't heed our wise advice will be looking just when it's getting toughest. The best places are the West End and South Side, pleasant areas near enough to roll out of bed into classes, but anywhere on the underground line will do. It's possible to get good value in suburban tenement flats. Glasgow has its rough areas, such as the Gorbals, which should be avoided like a 10lb fist.
