The extreme left are very quiet, the moderate right aren't. For many, the JCRs (mini unions in the colleges) offer quite enough politics without resorting to DSU for more. Plenty of services though. The charity Rag was banned in 1976 for breaking [ULNE]into[EULNE] Durham's top security prison and so students just changed the name to 'DUCK' (Durham University Charity weeK). Last year it raised ú27,000. Student Community Action acts as an umbrella group for many town-gown projects. The Durham Union Society (DUS) is the long-standing debating society which offers more than just debating. It also runs a bar, TV room, cafe and a range of events. [ITAL]It's often seen as a right-wing alternative to DSU or a refuge for the sophisticated Sloane -[EITAL] either way it costs ú35 to get in. Durham Student Theatre is the umbrella advice and co-ordination group for the University's endless drama groups. Durham sent 3 shows to the Edinburgh Festival last year.[HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][PARA]There is a 1,500 year-old Christian heritage, so finding a church is easy: as well as the Cathedral there are Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, Quaker and United Reformed churches. Most colleges have their own chapel. For muslims, a prayer room is provided, but the nearest mosque is in Sunderland. Anyone else has to venture to Newcastle for places to worship.[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA][ITAL]Very few openings.[EITAL][PARA][PARA]
