[HDNG]INTRODUCTION:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]S3[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Recent successes: hockey, tennis, volleyball, women's rugby.[ESTAT][PARA][ITAL]The level of involvement was high even before they got their spanking new sports hall, partly because the facilities were pretty good anyway. Student sports are run by the SU Athletic Union.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]SPORTS FACILITIES:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]In 4 sports centres, there are 33 acres of playing fields for all the usual field games and a small athletics track, floodlit artificial pitch, tennis and squash courts. Indoor facilities at Llys Tal-y-Bont, one of the residential complexes (about 11/2 miles from the main campus), include 2 sports halls, a fitness studio, free weights room and 5-a-side soccer pitch. The Union also has further facilities for table-tennis, squash, fencing, darts, snooker and pool. Expert advice, including fitness assessment, is usually to hand. Other facilities, such as a swimming pool, shooting range, sailing centre and boat house are hired locally by the University. The local area also adds an ice rink, ski slope, bowling green and the mountains of the surrounding countryside. For water sports, there are the River Taff, the sea (the Bristol Channel) and a lake - [ITAL]a fair choice.[EITAL][HDNG]SPORTING CLUBS:[EHDNG][PARA]American Football; Hang-Gliding; Aerobics; Caving; Ice Skating; Aikido; Mountain Biking; Rambling; Rifle Shooting; Surfing; Tenpin Bowling; Waterpolo; Weights; Water-Skiing.[HDNG]ATTRACTIONS:[EHDNG][PARA][PUSH]push[EPUSH] hardly needs mention rugby at Cardiff Arms Park, so we won't. There's also football at Ninian Park, the National Stadium, Glamorgan Cricket Club at Sophia Gardens and the Cardiff Devils ice hockey team.[PARA][PARA]
