  14. Below is a summary of the changes to the printer drivers (P-Z) in the
  15. Microsoft Windows Driver Library (WDL). The WDL offers support for
  16. many printers, displays, and sound cards not provided with Microsoft
  17. Windows operating system version 3.1.
  18.  
  19. To see WDL.TXT, which contains a complete listing of the WDL's
  20. contents and instructions for obtaining the WDL, query on "Q82006"
  21. (without the quotation marks) in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

  40. 10/08/92 - This file has been updated with version 3.1.2 of the
  41.            Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL). In this UNIDRV.DLL
  42.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  43.            printers.

  54. 10/20/92 - PAN9.EXE is new to the WDL. This version (version 2.1) of
  55.            the Microsoft Windows printer driver for Panasonic 9-pin
  56.            printers is an update to one provided in the Windows 3.1
  57.            package (version 1.0). It adds support for the following
  58.            models:

  61.               Panasonic KX-1695
  62.               Panasonic KX-P2180
  63.               Panasonic KX-P1081 (Previously in PANKX.EXE)

  68. 11/16/92 - Corrected the OEMSETUP.INF file so that it does not ask for

  74. 10/20/92 - This version (version 2.1) of the Microsoft Windows printer
  75.            driver for Panasonic 24-pin printers is an update to the
  76.            one previously provided in the WDL (version 2.0) and the
  77.            one provided in the Windows 3.1 package (version 1.0). It
  78.            adds support for the following models:

  93. 07/17/92 - This version (version 2.0) of the Microsoft Windows
  94.            Panasonic 24-pin printer driver is an update to the one
  95.            provided in the Windows 3.1 package (version 1.0). It
  96.            corrects the following problems:
  97.  
  98.             - Some extended characters not mapping to the correct
  99.               Windows ANSI character set.
  100.  
  101.             - Some extended characters using incorrect character
  102.               widths for proportionally spaced fonts.
  103.  
  104.             - A3, 11-by-17-inches, and fanfold 14 7/8-by-11-inches
  105.               paper sizes added.
  106.  
  107.             - User-defined paper sizes not functioning correctly.
  108.  
  109.             - Incorrect printable regions.
  110.  
  111.             - Adds support for two new models: the Panasonic KX-P1124i
  112.               and the Panasonic KX-P2624.
  113.  
  114.             - Provides a way for users to adjust where the driver
  115.               should expect the unprintable regions occur. This is
  116.               accessed through the Options Margins dialog box. The
  117.               default values are provided as specified by the
  118.               manufacturer.

  120. PostScript Driver - PSCRIPT.DRV (PSCRIP.EXE)
  121. --------------------------------------------
  122.  
  123. 08/12/92 - THE DRIVER HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED. A label in the code was
  124.            changed. You do not need to download the 8/12/92 version.
  125.  
  126. 07/17/92 - This version (version 3.53) of the Microsoft Windows
  127.            PostScript driver is an update to the one previously
  128.            provided (version 3.52) in the WDL. It corrects the problem
  129.            introduced in the 3.52 version with PostScript errors
  130.            occurring with the "setresolution" command on IBM
  131.            PostScript printers other than the IBM 4029.
  132.  
  133. 06/25/92 - This version (version 3.52) of the Microsoft Windows
  134.            PostScript driver is an update to the one provided in the
  135.            Windows 3.1 package (version 3.5), and to the one
  136.            previously provided (version 3.51) in the Windows Driver
  137.            Library. It corrects the following problems:
  138.  
  139.             - 600 dpi resolution not functioning with IBM 4029 in
  140.               PostScript mode.
  141.  
  142.             - Certain files generating PostScript errors for an
  143.               "arcto" command from various applications.
  144.  
  145.             - System resource loss with applications using the ResetDC
  146.               call, such as version 2.0 of Microsoft Word for Windows.
  147.  
  148.             - Performance loss when many soft fonts are installed.
  149.  
  150.             - Downloading TrueType fonts as native TrueType fonts
  151.               mapping extended characters incorrectly.
  152.  
  153.             - Error handler not downloaded when minimal PostScript
  154.               header is requested by CorelDRAW.
  155.  
  156.             - GP fault in PSCRIPT.DRV with Harvard Graphics for
  157.               Windows when requesting KernPairs information from
  158.               driver.
  159.  
  160.             - Workaround available for envelopes printing upside down.
  161.               Add envelopeOrient=270 under [Printername, port] section
  162.               of WIN.INI file. Functionally equivalent to
  163.               LandscapeOrient=270, as described in section 4.7 of
  164.               PRINTERS.WRI.
  165.  
  166.             - Four new Escape commands available to applications
  167.               capable of generating their own PostScript output.
  168.               Details on these commands are available in the Windows
  169.               SDK/DDK portion of the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
  170.  
  171.             - EPS files created by the Postscript driver (selected in
  172.               the Options Dialog box) are no longer rotated based on
  173.               currently selected orientation.
  174.  
  175.             - Various Linotype typesetter problems described below:
  176.  
  177.                - Support for Linotype 100, 300, and 500 now added.
  178.  
  179.                - Support for "basic 35" PostScript fonts added.
  180.  
  181.                - Problems with "Extra" paper sizes (for example,
  182.                  "Letter Extra", "Legal Extra", and so on) corrected.
  183.  
  184.                - Various "Transverse" & "Extra Transverse" paper sizes
  185.                  added.
  186.  
  187.                - Extra graphics resolutions added as follows:

  189.                     Linotype 100          1270 dpi
  190.                     Linotype 200/230      635, 846, 1270, 1693 dpi
  191.                     Linotype 300 v47.1    635, 1270, 2540 dpi
  192.                     Linotype 300 v49.3    635, 1270, 2540 dpi
  193.                     Linotype 330          1270, 1693, 2032, 2540 dpi

  198.                  Note that resolution must be set in driver as well on

  201.                - Corrections about maximum paper width available as

  213.                - All changes made to the previous PostScript driver
  214.                  (version 3.51) are included in version 3.52.

  216. 04/06/92 - This version (version 3.51) of the Microsoft Windows
  217.            PostScript driver is an update to the one provided in the
  218.            Windows 3.1 package (version 3.5). It corrects the
  219.            following problems:
  220.  
  221.             - "User Defined" paper sizes not functioning correctly.
  222.  
  223.             - TrueType fonts not printing correctly on printers using
  224.               the PostScript cartridge from Pacific Data Products. See
  225.               article Q84079 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for more
  226.               information on using this PostScript driver update to
  227.               correct this problem.

  229. QMS-PS 2000 (PS2000.EXE)
  230. ------------------------
  231.  
  232. 07/17/92 - PS2000.EXE IS NEW TO THE WDL. This driver updates the
  233.            QMS-PS 2000 driver in the Windows 3.1 retail package. This
  234.            updated version corrects a problem with the manual paper
  235.            feed not working correctly with the QMS-PS 2200.
  236.  
  237.            This driver also contains the Microsoft Windows PostScript
  238.            driver version 3.53. See PSCRIP.EXE for the changes made to
  239.            version 3.53.
  240.  
  241. Seiko Printers (SEIKO.EXE)
  242. --------------------------

  244. 07/10/92 - THE DRIVERS HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED. A new license agreement
  245.            is included.

  247. Sharp Printers (SHARP.EXE)
  248. --------------------------

  250. 10/08/92 - This file has been updated with version 3.1.2 of the
  251.            Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL). In this UNIDRV.DLL
  252.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  253.            printers.

  261. Star LaserPrinters (STAR.EXE)

  264. 10/08/92 - This file has been updated with version 3.1.2 of the
  265.            Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL). In this UNIDRV.DLL
  266.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  267.            printers.

  269. 07/10/92 - UNIDRV.DLL was updated to version 3.1.1. See UNIDRV.EXE
  270.            changes for specific details.

  272. 05/14/92 - THE DRIVERS HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED. The Help files,
  273.            UNIDRV.HLP and FINSTALL.HLP, were replaced. They are now
  274.            exactly the same as the Help files that are shipped with
  275.            Windows 3.1.
  276.  
  277. 04/22/92 - All the Star LaserPrinters now will be correctly identified
  278.            in Control Panel Printer Setup. (They were incorrectly
  279.            labeled as Brother HL-4 printers in the previous driver
  280.            version). This was a case of mismatched names between the
  281.            .DRV file and the OEMSETUP.INF file. Also, for ALL Star
  282.            printers, the paper size correctly defaults to
  283.            8.5-by-11-inch paper instead of A4.
  284.  
  285. TI OmniLaser Printers (TIOMNI.EXE)
  286. ----------------------------------

  288. 07/17/92 - PSCRIPT.DRV has been updated to version 3.53. See
  289.            PSCRIP.EXE for the changes made to version 3.53.

  291. 06/25/92 - PSCRIPT.DRV has been updated to version 3.52. See the
  292.            PSCRIP.EXE section on changes made to version 3.52.

  294. Toshiba 24-Pin Driver (TOSH24.EXE)
  295. ----------------------------------
  296.  
  297. 08/12/92 - This version of the Microsoft Windows printer driver for
  298.            the Toshiba P1351 and P351 was originally provided in the
  299.            Windows 3.0 package. It can also be used with Windows 3.1.
  300.            It corrects a problem with gaps in graphic data on a page
  301.            when device fonts are mixed with graphic data.

  303. Toshiba Expresswriter Printers (EXPRSS.EXE)

  366.            LaserJet Series III family of printers (HP LaserJet III,
  367.            IIID, IIIP, and IIISI).

  369. 08/12/92 - THE DRIVER HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED. The new UNIDRV.HLP file
  370.            was added.

  372. 07/10/92 - This version of the Universal Printer Driver (version
  373.            3.1.1) is an update to the driver previously available on
  374.            the  WDL and the driver provided in the Windows 3.1
  375.            package. It corrects the following  problems:
  376.  
  377.             - Not being able to select different graphics resolutions
  378.               that have have the same horizontal resolution from
  379.               version 4.0 of Microsoft Excel for Windows (for example,
  380.               120 x 1440 dpi and 120 x 72 dpi).
  381.  
  382.             - DeviceCapabilities API function not correctly returning
  383.               DC_MAXEXTENT and DC_MINEXTENT values.
  384.  
  385.             - Drivers not recognizing newly installed TrueType fonts
  386.               if TrueType fonts are installed while the application is
  387.               active.
  388.  
  389.             - QUERYESCSUPPORT Escape not showing SETABORTPROC Escape
  390.               as supported.
  391.  
  392.             - General protection (GP) fault if more than 32 permanent
  393.               soft fonts installed.
  394.  
  395.             - Corrects all problems with the 04/06/92 version.
  396.  
  397. 04/06/92 - This version of the Universal Printer Driver is an update
  398.            to the one provided in the Windows 3.1 package. It corrects
  399.            the following problems:
  400.  
  401.             - General protection (GP) faults when printing very small
  402.               bitmaps. This problem is most noticeable when using
  403.               HPPCL.DRV and printing at 75 dots per inch (dpi)
  404.               resolution.
  405.  
  406.             - Incorrect extended characters for device fonts printing
  407.               on a page where both TrueType and device fonts are used.
  408.               This is most noticeable when using HPPCL.DRV.
  409.  
  410.             - GP faults when printing from Aldus PhotoStyler.
  411.
