  14. Below is a summary of the changes to the printer drivers (A-G) in the
  15. Microsoft Windows Driver Library (WDL). The WDL offers support for
  16. many printers, displays, and sound cards not provided with Microsoft
  17. Windows operating system version 3.1.
  18.  
  19. To see WDL.TXT, which contains a complete listing of the WDL's
  20. contents and instructions for obtaining the WDL, query on "Q82006"
  21. (without the quotation marks) in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

  31. Brother Printers (BROHL.EXE)

  34. 10/08/92 - This file has been updated with version 3.1.2 of the
  35.            Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL). In this UNIDRV.DLL
  36.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  37.            printers.

  39. 07/10/92 - UNIDRV.DLL was updated to version 3.1.1. See UNIDRV.EXE

  42. 05/14/92 - THE DRIVERS HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED. The Help files,
  43.            UNIDRV.HLP and FINSTALL.HLP, were replaced. They are now
  44.            exactly the same as the Help files that are shipped with
  45.            Windows 3.1.

  47. 04/30/92 - The drivers for the Brother HL-4 and HL-8E did not change.
  48.  
  49.            The BROHL.EXE file changed to include drivers for several
  50.            additional Brother printers: the HJ-100, HJ-770, HL-8, and
  51.            HL-8D.

  53. 04/22/92 - This change included a new PCL4X.DRV file that was needed
  54.            to correct the Star LaserPrinter Identification problems in
  55.            Control Panel Printer Setup. (The Star printers were being
  56.            identified as a Brother HL-4 when the Setup button was
  57.            chosen.) The only change to these Brother printers is that
  58.            the paper size on the Brother HL printers will now default
  59.            to 8.5-by-11-inch paper instead of A4.

  61. Brother 9-Pin Printers (BRO9.EXE)

  101.            Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL). In this UNIDRV.DLL
  102.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  103.            printers.

  108. 05/14/92 - THE DRIVERS HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED. The Help file,

  112. 04/30/92 - The driver for the Canon Bubble-Jet BJC-800 now defaults to
  113.            8.5-by-11-inch paper size instead of A4.

  115.            Several new Canon printer drivers were added to CANON.EXE.

  118. Canon Bubble-Jet 300/339 Printer Drivers - (CANON2.EXE)
  119. ------------------------------------------------------

  121. 10/20/92 - CANON2.EXE is new to the WDL. This version (version 1.5) of
  122.            the Microsoft Windows printer driver for the Canon
  123.            Bubble-Jet 300 and Bubble-Jet 330 printers is an update to
  124.            the one provided in the Windows 3.1 package (version 1.0).
  125.            It corrects the following problems:
  126.  
  127.             - Poor quality TrueType fonts when printing at 180
  128.               dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution.
  129.  
  130.             - Incorrect extended characters and incorrect character
  131.               widths for extended characters with proportionally
  132.               spaced device fonts.
  133.  
  134.             - Incorrect unprintable regions.
  135.  
  136.             - Problems with switching paper bins during a single print
  137.               job.
  138.  
  139. Citizen 9-Pin Printers (CIT9.EXE)

  178. Diconix 150 Plus Printer Driver - (DICONX.EXE)

  181. 10/20/92 - DICONX.EXE is new to the WDL. This version (version 1.1) of
  182.            the Microsoft Windows printer driver for Diconix 150 Plus
  183.            is an update to the one provided in the Windows 3.1 package
  184.            (version 1.0). It adds support for A4 paper.
  185.  
  186. Epson 9-Pin Driver (EP9.EXE)
  187. ----------------------------

  189. 10/08/92 - This file has been updated with version 3.1.2 of the
  190.            Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL). In this UNIDRV.DLL
  191.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  192.            printers.

  194. 08/12/92 - This version (version 2.0) of the Microsoft Windows printer
  195.            driver for Epson 9-pin printers is an update to the one
  196.            provided in the Windows 3.1 package (version 1.0). It
  197.            corrects the following problems:

  199.             - New models added: Epson FX-1000, Epson FX-105, Epson
  200.               FX-800, Epson LX-400, Epson LX-850, Epson LX-850+, Epson
  201.               Compatible 9-Pin.
  202.  
  203.             - Missing support for some extended characters was added
  204.               to pre-286e models.
  205.  
  206.             - You can now define the printable area by choosing the
  207.               Margins button in the Options dialog box to support
  208.               Windows 3.0 compatibility.

  210.             - Problem with manual feed and multiple page documents was
  211.               corrected.

  213. Epson 24-Pin Driver (EP24.EXE)

  218.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  219.            printers.

  221. 09/08/92 - This version (version 2.1) of the Microsoft Windows printer
  222.            driver for Epson 24-pin printers is an update to the one
  223.            previously supplied on the Windows Driver Library and to
  224.            the one provided in the Windows 3.1 package (version 1.0).
  225.            It corrects a "page creep" problem when user-defined
  226.            margins are specified in the Margins dialog box available
  227.            with the version 2.0 EPSON24.DRV file.

  229. 08/12/92 - This version (version 2.0) of the Microsoft Windows printer
  230.            driver for Epson 24-pin printers is an update to the one
  231.            provided in the Windows 3.1 package (version 1.0). It
  232.            corrects the following problems:
  233.  
  234.             - New models added: Epson DLQ-2000, Epson LQ-1060, Epson
  235.               LQ-200, Epson LQ-400, Epson LQ-450, Epson LQ-860, Epson
  236.               SQ-2550, Epson SQ-850, Epson Compatible 24-Pin.
  237.  
  238.             - You can now define the printable area by choosing the
  239.               Margins button in the Options dialog box to support
  240.               Windows 3.0 compatibility.
  241.  
  242.             - Problems with tear-off feature not working on some
  243.               models are now corrected.
  244.  
  245.             - Bin names were changed from Upper & Lower Bin, to Sheet
  246.               Feeder - Bin1 and Sheet Feeder - Bin2.
  247.  
  248.             - Problems with color models where previously selected
  249.               color remained selected for new print job are now
  250.               corrected.
  251.  
  252.             - Problem with manual feed and multiple-page documents is
  253.               corrected.
  254.  
  255.             - Problem when printing on the extreme right of wide paper
  256.               is corrected.
  257.  
  258.             - Minimum unprintable width was changed to .5 inch to
  259.               support smaller mailing labels.
  260.  
  261. Epson ActionLaser Printers (EPLZR.EXE)
  262. --------------------------------------
  263.  
  264. 10/08/92 - This file has been updated with version 3.1.2 of the
  265.            Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL). In this UNIDRV.DLL
  266.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  267.            printers.

  269. 07/10/92 - UNIDRV.DLL was updated to version 3.1.1. See UNIDRV.EXE
  270.            changes for specific details.

  272. 04/06/92 - The driver for the Espon EPL-7000 does not address any
  273.            particular problems in the driver shipped with Windows 3.1
  274.            that supports this printer. The WDL version of this driver
  275.            is considered to be more robust. It is recommended that
  276.            customers using this printer use the WDL version of the
  277.            driver.
  278.  
  279. Epson ESC/P 2 Scalable Font Driver (ESCP2.EXE)
  280. ----------------------------------------------
  281.  
  282. 11/16/92 - This version (version 1.25) of the Microsoft Windows
  283.            printer driver for Epson ESC/P 2 printers is an update to
  284.            the one previously provided in the WDL (ESCP2.DRV). The
  285.            difference between the ESCP2.DRV and the ESCP2E.DRV drivers
  286.            is in the features they support on the printer. The
  287.            ESCP2.DRV driver takes advantage of the printer's raster
  288.            data-compression modes, but doesn't support device fonts.
  289.            This means that TrueType fonts and graphics will print
  290.            faster with this driver than with other Epson drivers. The
  291.            ESCP2E.DRV driver supports scalable device fonts, as well
  292.            as TrueType fonts and raster graphics. However, TrueType
  293.            fonts and raster graphics data will not print as quickly as
  294.            when using ESCP2.DRV.
  295.  
  296.            ESCP2E.DRV corrects the following problems:
  297.  
  298.             - Support for the following models has been added:
  299.  
  300.                  Epson AP-3250 Scalable Font
  301.                  Epson AP-5500 Scalable Font
  302.                  Epson AP-5000 Scalable Font
  303.                  Epson LQ-100 Scalable Font
  304.                  Epson SQ-870 Scalable Font
  305.                  Epson SQ-1170 Scalable Font
  306.  
  307.               (The abbreviation "AP" stands for "ActionPrinter.")
  308.  
  309.             - The scalable device font names were changed from:
  310.  
  311.                  Roman PS to Roman Scalable
  312.                  San Serif PS to San Serif Scalable
  313.  
  314.             - A problem when using the printer's tear-off feature has
  315.               been corrected.
  316.  
  317. 10/08/92 - This file has been updated with version 3.1.2 of the
  318.            Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL). In this UNIDRV.DLL
  319.            update, support was added for the HP LaserJet III family of
  320.            printers.

  322. 09/08/92 - This version (version 1.3) of the Microsoft Windows printer
  323.            driver for Epson ESC/P 2 24-pin printers is an update to
  324.            the one provided in the Windows 3.1 package (version 1.0).
  325.  
  326.            It corrects the following problems:
  327.  
  328.             - Several Epson ESC/P 2 printer models are added: LQ-100,
  329.               AP-3250, AP-5000, AP-5500, SQ-870, and SQ-1170. (The
  330.               model names beginning with "AP" are abbreviations for
  331.               ActionPrinter.)
  332.  
  333.             - The 360 x 180 resolution was not listed on the LQ-870
  334.               and LQ-1070 printer drivers. This version adds this
  335.               resolution to all printer models. The resolutions are
  336.               180 x 180, 360 x 180, and 360 x 360 dots per inch (dpi).
  337.  
  338.             - The orientation of envelope paper sizes was incorrect in
  339.               the version 1.1 driver and was based on laser printer
  340.               paper feeding. Version 1.3 allows printing on envelopes
  341.               in the correct orientation for dot-matrix printers.
  342.  
  343.             - The printable area of some paper sizes was modified to
  344.               prevent occasional incorrect or inconsistent paper-
  345.               feeding problems when using a sheet feeder.
  346.  
  347. 07/10/92 - UNIDRV.DLL was updated to version 3.1.1. See UNIDRV.EXE
  348.            changes for specific details.

  441.            printers is an update to the one provided in the Windows
