Transcription: The diffuse X-ray experiment, or DXS, examined the origin, evolution and physical state of the matter, or interstellar medium, that fills the space between stars. The DXS experiment was designed to detect X-rays emitted by hot gases which comprise one portion of interstellar medium. Astronauts measured the gases' temperature and composition, thereby giving scientists a better understanding of the hottest phase in the life cycle of interstellar medium.
