#The Labyrinth
The Labyrinth is a fun and challenging game of
skill, quick reflexes, and puzzle solving!
Exciting 3D visuals and cleverly designed maze
levels, keep you coming back for more! Easy to
play, yet challenging to master, you'll be having
fun with this game in the first five minutes.
This demo is designed to give you a small taste
of the game. There are dozens of additional
levels, powerups, and other surprises when you
[upgrade to the full version!]
#Basic Idea of The Game
Guide your ball through the maze without falling
into a hole. Along the way, you can collect gems
for points, powerups and other bonuses.

#Getting Started
From the Main Menu choose "Play" to pull up
the Play Menu. You may be asked to enter a
player name if this is the first time you
have selected the Play option. In this case,
type your name into the "Name" box and hit the
Enter key when you're done.
In the Play Menu select the Arcade mode to bring
up the Level Selection screen.
The "Race The Clock" and "My Labyrinth" modes are
only available when you upgrade to the [full]
[version of the game.]

#Choosing a level
After selecting the Arcade mode the
Level-Picker screen will be displayed.
Available levels will appear in the list in
yellow while levels not-yet reached will be
shown grayed-out.
There are dozens of additional levels in the
full version. This demo contains three sample
levels for you to enjoy.
You can change the selection by using the arrow
keys or by clicking on the level name with the
mouse cursor. Use the scroll buttons on the
right to see more levels in the list.
Current record highs for the highlighted level
will appear in the box at the bottom of the
screen.

#Arcade Mode
In Arcade mode your goal is to reach the
finish while avoiding traps, and collecting
as many gems as you can along the way.
Maze difficulty increases as you progress
through the game. Be careful using powerups
as they can help you or hurt you!

#Race The Clock Mode
[Available in Full Version Only]
In this mode you must complete each maze
within the specified "Par" time. Look for
hourglass powerups to increase the time you
have to complete the level.
You will need to get faster as you progress
through each level, so you'll have to practice,
practice, practice!

#My Labyrinth Mode
[Available in Full Version Only]
My Labyrinth Mode is a special bonus in the
full version of the game. Additional levels
are included as examples for you to play and
modify.
In order to modify and [create new levels],
you will need to download The Labyrinth
level editor when it becomes available.
Check back at www.real.com/games for
information on availability.

#Scoring
Your score is based on finishing the level,
how fast you finished it, and gems you've
collected.
Points are awarded as you progress through
each level. This is the "Base Score". Every
level has its own maximum base score at the
finish point.
Gems are valued as follows:
Green Gems = 10 points
Red Gems = 25 points
Blue Gems = 100 points
If you complete a level below its Par time
you receive a time bonus of 10 points per
second under Par that is added to your score.

#Powerups
On many of the levels you will encounter
various powerups, some will be advantageous
while others may hinder your progress.
The powerups that are featured in this demo
version are:
[Turtles] will make your ball move very slowly.
[Rabbits] will make your ball speed around
quickly (careful, this can be hazardous on a
level with many holes).

#Powerups continued..
There are additional powerups available in the
[full version of the game:]
[Teleporters] will magically send your ball to
some other point on the board.
[The Hourglass] will give you an extra 15
seconds to finish a Race The Clock level.
[Ghosts] will let you move through walls but may
also run out on you in the worst of all places.
[Close All Holes] gives you three seconds of
safety from all holes on the board.

#Controls
The ball is moved by tilting the board. The
board tilts in response to the movement of the
mouse. Moving the mouse to the left will tilt
the board to the left, moving the mouse
forward will tilt the board away from the
player.
Just as a real ball will accelerate with
gravity when the board tilts, so will the
ball in the game, so don't tilt too much or it
will be easy to lose control.
Hitting the space bar or the right mouse button
will bring the board back to level. This will
not, however, stop the ball as the ball will
still have momentum. If you need to stop the
ball quickly you will have to tilt the board
in the opposite direction that the ball is
rolling.

#Controls (Continued)
During game play, hitting the Esc key will
bring up the in-game menu.
If you wish to restart a level during gameplay
you can simply hit the F10 key rather than
use the in-game menu.

#Changing The View
The view of the board can be changed using
the arrow keys on the keyboard.
[Zoom In] with the up arrow.
[Zoom Out] with the down arrow.
[Move Around The Board] with the left and right
arrows.
[Raise and Lower The View] by holding down the
Ctrl key while using the up or down arrow
keys.

#Changing The Current Player
The Labyrinth remembers the last player to
play the game. You can create a new player or
change to a different player in the Change
Player screen under Options in the Main Menu.
Select one of the players in the "Players"
list or type the name of a new player in the
"Name" box. When finished click on "Done>>"
or press the Enter key.
$
#Game Preferences
Users can set music and sound volume, mouse
sensitivity, and set Theme/Ball preferences
in the Game Preferences screen under Options
in the Main Menu.
The theme for each level is normally set
internally but can be overridden by the user.
The "Theme" box is initially set to
"<Default>". Changing this parameter will lock
the theme for all levels to the selected theme.
The "Ball" box works in the same manner as the
"Theme" box, overriding the defaults and
locking the ball to the selected style.
You can change the amount the board tilts in
response to mouse movement by adjusting the
mouse sensitivity slider. The higher the setting
the more reactive the ball movement will be.
Moving the slider to the left decreases the
sensitivity and to the right will increase it.

#Game Preferences (continued)
The volume sliders will increase the volume to
the right and decrease the volume to the left.
It may be necessary to turn off the music to
improve game performance on some machines. To
turn off music set the volume slider all the
way to the left. The text will change to
"Music Off".

#Display Preferences
Advanced users may wish to change the display
settings for the game. Increasing the resolution
will improve the image quality but will
adversely impact performance, possibly making
the game more difficult to play smoothly.
The "Resolution" box is used to select the mode
the screen will be set to. The default setting
is 640x480x16. On some systems, the game can
be played in a window but this is may make the
game more difficult to play since the mouse
cursor may interfere when outside the window
borders.
Some systems may have more than one 3D
accelerator card. The preferred card can be
selected in the "Hardware" box. The game will
attempt to select the best option by default.

#Display Prefs (Continued)
The other options can be enabled to improve
visual quality or disabled to improve
performance.
[Environment Mapping] is the reflection of the
world on the ball. The default setting for
this is On.
[The Background] can be turned off to improve
performance in some cases. This option is
on by default.
[32-Bit Textures] are available on some systems
and can marginally improve the visual quality
of the game. The default setting for this is
Off.
