  14.    You will need this file if you have a version of DiskMate prior to 2.11.

  18.    This is a Utility Program for version 2.11 only.

  20. Note: DISKMATE.DOC is an ASCII text file formatted with page breaks and a
  21.       left-hand margin to accommodate 3-hole punching.  Start your paper about
  22.       1" from the top and send DISKMATE.DOC to your printer (COPY DISKMATE.DOC
  23.       LPT1, for example).  You can also import it to your favorite word
  24.       processing program and print it from there.  DISKMATE.DOC does contain
  25.       IBM graphic characters.  If your printer isn't capable of printing these
  26.       characters, some of the screen displays in the documentation won't look
  27.       quite right.

  30. System Requirements
  31. =================================================================
  32.  
  33.     DiskMate will run on the IBM family of personal computers and compatible
  34.     computers meeting the following minimum requirements.  (286 or better
  35.     recommended).
  36.  
  37.     MINIMUM requirements are:
  38.  
  39.     ■ PC-DOS OR MS-DOS 3.3 or greater.
  40.  
  41.     ■ One floppy diskette drive.
  42.  
  43.     ■ Hard disk drive with minimum of 605K free space.
  44.  
  45.     ■ Either a color or a monochrome monitor with 80-column
  46.       display.
  47.  
  48. To Install & Run DiskMate
  49. -------------------------
  50.  
  51. * Make sure your CONFIG.SYS file has enough file handles and buffers. 
  52.   Recommended:  FILES=30 (or higher)    BUFFERS=10 (or higher)
  53.  
  54. It would be good practice to first make a backup or a backup copy of the 
  55. DMATE.EXE file.  Then....
  56.   - Create a directory for DiskMate ("DISKMATE" is nice!).
  57.   - Copy DMATE.EXE to your DiskMate directory.
  58.   - Upack DMATE.EXE by typing "DMATE" (without the quotes).
  59. Note:  If you're unpacking version 2.11 in a directory containing a previous
  60.        version of DiskMate, you'll be asked if you want to 'overwrite' files.
  61.        You should answer Y (Yes) for all files.  YOU MUST ALSO RUN FIX211.EXE
  62.        (by typing "FIX211") to update the databases.  DO NOT RUN FIX211 MORE
  63.        THAN ONCE!  Your original databases will be renamed with a "ORG"
  64.        extension in case you want to revert to your previous version of
  65.        DiskMate (in which case you'll have to rename them with a "DBF"
  66.        extension).  If you're satisfied that everything is working okay, you
  67.        can delete the ORG databases and FIX211.EXE to preserve diskspace.

  69.   Important!
  70.   - Run DiskMate by typing   "DM"    (without the quotes, of course).
  71.     Typing DM initiates a batch file named DM.BAT necessary to set the
  72.     Clipper environmental for the number of files allowed to be open at one
  73.     time.  If you run DiskMate by typing  "DISKMATE", for example, you may
  74.     get a 'FILE OPEN' or 'RUN ERROR' condition at some point during program
  75.     execution.

  143. DiskMate has been rewritten and upgraded to version 2.0.  Versions prior to 2.0
  144. were written to accommodate DOS 2.0 and are no longer available.

  146. DiskMate version 2.0 requires DOS 3.3 or higher and is no longer restricted to 
  147. the file limitations of DOS 2.0.

  149. Many new features were also added to version 2.0.  Most formidable are:

  151. - DiskMate will store contents of "PKZIP" files to the database.  This is an
  152.   option that can be turned ON or OFF.
  153. - Labels and Reports can be sent to: the Screen, the Printer, or to a Disk
  154.   File (Full Version only).
  155. - Labels can be printed from the floppy disk OR the database.
  156. - A floppy disk can be REREAD into the database (in case of changes).
  157. - Several new Report formats are available.
  158. - DiskMate will make use of Expanded Memory (if available).

  222.                        Floppy drive (F3), it will remain the same (even on sub-
  223.                        sequent runs) until you change it again.

  225. > Better drive error handling.  If you leave drive door open or don't put in a
  226.                                 floppy, you won't get DOS error messages.
  227.                                 Instead you'll get a friendly notice and the
  228.                                 program will resume after you correct the
  229.                                 situation.
