INTENDED USER: Briefly, the software is designed to fill the needs of a
clinic or health program seeking to motivate and sustain weight control for
their patients or clients. Robust, but friendly enough to encourage people
to use it at home on their own, with context sensitive help, a graphical user
interface and an on-line hyper paging user guide you're up to speed
instantly.
UNIQUE FEATURES: I do not believe there is any other program that supports
the notion of weight control through permanent changes in lifestyle. LEANER
nudges the user toward a healthy lifetime diet and increased exercise by
self-monitoring, pre-planning, goal setting and other behavioral modification
techniques. Numerous self-assessment tools are provided to encourage and
educate the user.
The User Guide is not a traditional how-to-run-the-program document, rather
it's a source of informational tidbits from current research by nutritionists
and biologists. Existing and future program features will help you evaluate
and control your weight using techniques based on solid research, instead of
fad or food mythology from light years ago.

DETAILED PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: LEANER is a collection of behavior
modification tactics and motivational techniques for long term weight
control.
Cardiovascular risk factors can be calculated and played with in a "what if"
fashion, pointing out the importance of a healthy body weight and benefits of
weight related factors like exercise. Body Mass Index and Waist-Hip-Ratio
ascertain the user's health risk from over and under weight. Percent body
fat, lean body mass and an age related "safe weight" range are computed.
Modified forms of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Beck Depression
Index and the CAGE questionnaire explore the psychological factors associated
with weight management.
Daily entries into a personal chart track weight related items for a calendar
year. The specific fields are: date, weight, eating style (5 pt. subjective
assessment), exercise (1 user definable, 3 entries per day) and weight loss
strategies (8 user definable check list items; filled with metabolism boosting
techniques by default) and a progress notes line for free text entry.
Chart data can be reviewed in terms of eating behavior or energy expended.
Another review mode promotes assessing the effectiveness of your chosen
weight loss strategies. And another data review takes a detailed look at the
effect of exercise on your weight.
Four graphs (2 text based & 2 EGA/VAG) provide detailed plots of daily entries
and annual overviews of weight gains and losses. Print monthly weight reports
and exercise reports that include graphs as well as daily information.
