  4. I can't remember exactly where I got this and I haven't tried it yet on my
  5. TM-701A but I know I've seen the extended frequency mod somewhere else and
  6. know people who've performed it successfully.  PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

  10.                TM-701A REPEATER CROSS-BAND MODIFICATION (REVISED)

  14. Perform The following modification to allow the TM-701A to operate in the
  15. repeater cross-band mode.
  16.  
  17. MODIFICATION:
  18.  
  19. 1. Disconnect the power supply and antenna.
  20.  
  21. 2. Remove the top and bottom covers (12 screws).  Disconnect the speaker wire
  22.    from the transceiver.
  23.  
  24. 3. Locate the green jumper wire shown in figure 1. Using a sharp pair of wire
  25.    cutters, cut the jumper in half.

  38.    CAUTION: Cutting the green jumper allows the TM-701A to transmit from 142 to
  39.             151.995 MHz. Protect your license by only using frequencies that
  40.             you are authorized to transmit on.

  42. 4. Solder a jumper wire to the foil side of the TX-RX board as shown in Figure
  43.    2.

  56. 5. Assemble the transceiver by reversing steps 1-2.

  58. 6. Reset the microprocessor by holding in the MR key as the power is turned on.
  59.  
  60. The repeater cross-band operation allows the TM-701A to receive on one band and
  61. re-transmit the signal on the other band. The TM-701A alternately displays the
  62. two bands until a signal is received. The transceiver will then display the
  63. band that is re-transmitting the signal. The shift function cannot be used
  64. during the repeater cross-band operation. If the TONE or CTCSS function is
  65. required, only one EIA tone can be used for the two bands.

  67. OPERATING PROCEDURE:
  68.  
  69. 1. Select the operating frequencies for both bands.
  70.  
  71. 2. Set the squelch control to the threshold point. The TM-701A will transmit in
  72.    the repeater cross-band mode if the squelch control is set too low or a
  73.    signal is received.
  74.  
  75. 3. Place the transceiver in the duplex mode (F + DUP).
  76.  
  77. 4. Press the F key for longer than one second. The F indicator will flash.
  78.  
  79. 5. Press the LOW key. The transceiver will now enter the repeater cross-band
  80.    mode of operation.

  82. 6. To cancel the operation and return to the VFO mode, press the VFO key.

  90. I did post the mod to this net sometime ago. The main point I want to stress is
  91. that the TM-701a will not cross band full duplex like the TM-621,721,731 etc.
  92. It will only crossband simplex. You cannot put your favorite 2m repeater on one
  93. band and talk through the TM701a with a 440 handie talkie. But you could dial up
  94. your favorite simplex 2m frequency and use your 440 HT to go out on 2m.
