support my hard work. For the literally hundreds of hours spent in
developing Rat Race 93, I ask only that sysops who run RAT RACE '93
on their BBS to send a small contribution of $10. To register,
send $10 (Money order or check) to:

The program RAT-TERM (enclosed in RAT-TERM.ZIP) which is required for
remote users to play RAT RACE '93 is FREEWARE. You may distribute this
program in an unmodified form to anyone you wish. Users of RAT-TERM are
NOT required to send money. Although I would not mind it in the least.

Game Overview
─────────────
RAT RACE '93 (from hereafter referred to as Rat93) is a BBS Maze Game. It
uses a special terminal on the users end to display color VGA or EGA or
Hercules monochrome graphics, adding a new dimension to BBS game play.
Unlike many BBS door games that use the low resolution ANSI graphics,
Rat93 with its accompanying RAT-TERM program, provide a game environment
usually found only in stand alone games on the PC.
Note: Rat93 CANNOT BE PLAYED BY A REMOTE USER WITHOUT RAT-TERM!
There is NO support for ANSI graphics, or a text mode.
Rat93 is a very simple game to play. The object is to collect more
cheese than any of your opponents. The game is played in a maze which is
175 by 150.
You move your rodent either with a mouse (of course) or with the arrow
keys on your numeric key pad (numlock may be on or off).
You quit the game by pressing 'q' or 'Q'. Pressing '?' will display the
current rankings and high scores along with the winner(s) of the last
game.
Occasionally you may be assigned a mouse hole that is in a boxed in area.
If this happens, you may 'suicide' by pressing 'Z'. You will be deleted
and will receive a different starting place when you re-enter the game.
When you enter the game, you are given a mouse hole as your home base.
As you wander around the maze, you pick up cheese by walking over it.
You can carry up to 10 pieces of cheese at ay one time. You get points
for each piece of cheese you deposit back at your mouse hole. Simply
walk into your rodent hole and your cheese is stored safely.
Unfortunately for you, the maze is inhabited by nasty kitty cats. These
cats are bound and determined to make your life miserable. If a cat
gets you, you are sent back to your mouse hole, and you loose any cheese
you were carrying.
There are several types of cats in the maze. Each type of cat has a
different behavior. Some cats can even crawl OVER walls. So watch out.
The game ends when there is less than 100 pieces of cheese left in the
maze. When a player quits out of the game, if at that time there is less
than 100 pieces left in the maze, the rat (or rats) with the most cheese
wins!
That's all there is to Rat Race 93. Enjoy the game!
