  3. DESCRIPTION:

  5. Retriever is a quick and handy image viewer for Windows95/98/NT4.0,
  6. with an industry standard no fuss user interface. But you can do much more 
  7. with Retriever:

  9. -    create thumbnails fast & easily
  10.  
  11. -    create impressive contact sheets from thumbnails
  12.  
  13. -     save contact sheets as index images, or print them to get an image catalog
  14.  
  15. -    create a website with thumbnails automatically
  16.  
  17. -    "Dupe Detective" finds dupes and similar images
  18.  
  19. -    manage your images in a unique database 
  20.  
  21. -    basic, yet powerful image processing, like
  22.     *    realtime color correction
  23.     *    high quality filtered resample
  24.     *    superior color quantization
  25.     *    one click image enhancement

  38. Retriever 2.0 is available as fully functional, uncrippled shareware.

  40. It is free for an evaluation period of up to 30 days after installation.
  41. The program will continue to work after the trial period.
  42. Continued use after the trial period is illegal without registration.

  46. It is distributed over the internet as a self-extracting installation, eg. at

  49. REQUIREMENTS:
  50.  
  51.     Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0+
  52.     HiColor or TrueColor graphics recommended.
  53.  
  54. INSTALLATION:
  55.     
  56.     Run rtrvr20.exe
  57.     It will extract the setup files to a temporary directory and start the setup.
  58.     
  59.     Retriever 2.0 incl. online help will use 1152k on your harddisk.
  60.     
  61.     Retriever consists of a single exe "Retriever.exe"
  62.     It doesn't require additional DLLs and will not write things to your System 
  63.     directory.
  64.  
  65.     When you run Retriever for the first time, it will register itself as the 
  66.     "default viewer" for all images that it can display, so you can open and print 
  67.     images from Explorer. Retriever remembers your old "default viewer", and you 
  68.     can switch back whenever you want to.
  69.  
  70.     If you ever uninstall Retriever and you have used the default database, 
  71.     Retriever's directory will not be removed, so you can save retriever.db if you 
  72.     want. Apart from this Retriever should uninstall tracelessly.

  75.     If you already use an older version of Retriever, you can simply install over it,
  76.     to the same directory.
  77.     Retriever 2.0 can read old thumbnail files (*.ret), but an old Retriever can not 
  78.     read the new 2.0 "*.ret" files.

  125.       any time. Retriever remembers your previous image program.

  127.     * Some minor improvements were made and "glitches" were fixed. _No_ bugs have 
  128.       been reported in V1.0 :) although I found one and fixed it ;))
