- SYMPTOMS:
-
- 1. Applications hang the system when doing common functions
- like saving a file, printing, or importing data from
- another application.
- 2. Out of memory errors occur.
- 3. Applications appear to start but return to the icon.
- 4. Various error messages occur, but seem unrelated to the
- function in process.

- RESOLUTION:
-
- 1. OS/2 Support line has a file available with with a complete
- description of most available settings.
- 2. All applications vary in some settings, but below are the
- most common settings for optimal performance.

- PROCEDURES:
-
- 1. Refer to pgs 185-186 of OS/2 2.1: Using the Operating System
- technical manual for information about the Settings page for
- a program object.

- 2. In the WIN-OS/2 settings, with settings listed in left
- box), select the Help push button.

- 3. Scroll to Related Information.
-
- 4. Select the following DOS and WIN-OS/2 Settings:
-
- DOS memory settings:
- DOS_HIGH = On
- DOS_UMB = On
- EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT = 0 or 2048
- DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT = 64
- XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT = 4-10Mb

- DOS video settings:
- VIDEO_FASTPASTE = On
- VIDEO_WINDOW_REFRESH = 5

- Other DOS settings:
- HW_ROM_TO_RAM = On
- IDLE_SECONDS = Max (60)
- IDLE_SENSITIVITY = Max (100)
- DOS_FILES = 50 (or more)

- 5. After these are set, select the Save radio button.
- 6. Exit from program's settings.
