  13. SYMPTOMS:
  14.  
  15. 1. Applications hang the system when doing common functions
  16.    like saving a file, printing, or importing data from
  17.    another application.
  18. 2. Out of memory errors occur.
  19. 3. Applications appear to start but return to the icon.
  20. 4. Various error messages occur, but seem unrelated to the
  21.    function in process.

  24. RESOLUTION:
  25.  
  26. 1. OS/2 Support line has a file available with with a complete
  27.    description of most available settings.
  28. 2. All applications vary in some settings, but below are the
  29.    most common settings for optimal performance.

  33. PROCEDURES:
  34.  
  35. 1. Refer to pgs 185-186 of OS/2 2.1:  Using the Operating System
  36. technical manual for information about the Settings page for
  37. a program object.
  38.  
  39. 2. In the WIN-OS/2 settings, with settings listed in left
  40.    box), select the Help push button.
  41.  
  42. 3. Scroll to Related Information.

  44. 4. Select the following DOS and WIN-OS/2 Settings:

  46.        DOS memory settings:
  47.        DOS_HIGH = On
  48.        DOS_UMB = On
  49.        EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT = 0 or 2048
  50.        DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT = 64
  51.        XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT = 4-10Mb

  54.        DOS video settings:
  55.        VIDEO_FASTPASTE = On
  56.        VIDEO_WINDOW_REFRESH = 5

  58.        Other DOS settings:
  59.        HW_ROM_TO_RAM = On
  60.        IDLE_SECONDS = Max (60)
  61.        IDLE_SENSITIVITY = Max (100)
  62.        DOS_FILES = 50 (or more)
