  11. You need a set of utility diskettes and backup diskettes before
  12. you begin.

  15. Making Utility Diskettes:
  16.  
  17.   1. Open the Welcome Folder.
  18.   2. Open the Configuration Tools Folder.
  19.   3. Choose Create Utility Diskettes - requires 2 diskettes.

  21. Backing Up the System:
  22.  
  23. 1.  Start the system from the Utility Diskettes.
  24. 2.  Insert Utility Diskette 1 into drive A:
  25. 3.  At the A:\ prompt type: BACKUP C: A: /S and press Enter.
  26. 4.  Insert diskettes as prompted.

  30. Deleting Current Partitions:

  33. 1.  Start the system from the Utility diskettes
  34. 2.  Insert Utility Diskette 1 into drive A:
  35. 3.  At the A:\ prompt type: FDISK and press Enter.
  36. 4.  Highlight Current OS/2 Partition press Enter.
  37. 5.  Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
  38. 6.  Highlight Free Space Partition and press Enter.
  39. 7.  Select Install Boot Manager and press Enter.
  40. 8.  Select at Start of Free Space and press Enter.
  41. 9.  If you have an additional partition labeled type FE,
  42.     select this Partition and press Enter.
  43. 10. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.

  45. At the end of this step, you should have two partitions, one for
  46. boot manager and one of free space.  If you do not repeat the
  47. process.

  49. Creating New Partitions for the Operating System:
  50. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  52. 1.  Highlight Free Space Partition and press Enter.
  53. 2.  Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  54. 3.  Set the size for the partition and press Enter. OS/2 needs 60
  55.     MB for Preload.
  56. 4.  Choose Primary for the partition type and press Enter.
  57. 5.  Highlight create partition at start of free space and press
  58.     Enter.
  59. 6.  Highlight newly created partition and press Enter.
  60. 7.  Choose Add to Boot Manager and press Enter.
  61. 8.  Type the name of the Partition and press Enter.

  63. Repeat Step 2 for each operating system you are planning to
  64. install.  You may install an extended logical or multiple
  65. extended logicals for data by Choosing Extended Logical in step 4
  66. and omitting steps 5-7.

  69. Formatting and Installing the Operating System

  72. NOTE:   If you are in the FDISK utility skip steps 1-3.

  74. 1.  Start the system from the Utility diskettes.
  75. 2.  Insert Utility Disk 1.
  76. 3.  Type FDISK and press Enter.
  77. 4.  Highlight an unformatted, labeled primary partition and
  78.     press Enter.
  79. 5.  Select Make Startable and press Enter.

  81. NOTE:  If a C: partition is already assigned skip steps
  82.        6-7.

  84. 6.  Press Enter to display the menu.
  85. 7.  Choose Assign C:  Partition and press Enter.
  86. 8.  Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  87. 9.  Select Save and Exit.
  88. 10. Restart the system using the utility diskettes.
  89. 11. Insert Utility Diskette 1.
  90. 12. Type:  FORMAT C:  (formats the FAT file system) and press
  91.     Enter.
  92. 13. Press Y after the warning screen.
  93. 14. Press Enter for no volume label.
  94. 15. Restart the computer to operating system.
  95. 16. Initiate the Install or Restore.

  97.      For DOS:
  98.      For steps 10 and 11 place DOS install disks in drive
  99.      A: and slect install

  101.      For OS/2:
  102.      1. Boot from Utility diskettes.
  103.      2. Insert Utility Diskette 1.
  104.      3. Type RESTORE A:  C:  /S.
  105.      4. Follow on screen instructions.

  107. Repeat Step 3 for each primary partition.  If you have
  108. extended logical partitions, they can be formatted from an
  109. OS/2 Command Prompt when the procedure is completed.

  112. Activiting Book Manager:
  113. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  115. NOTE:  If you are in the FDISK utility, you omit Steps 1-3.

  117. 1.  Start the system from Utility diskettes.
  118. 2.  Insert Utility diskette 1.
  119. 3.  Type FDISK and press Enter.
  120. 4.  Highlight the Boot Manager Partition and press Enter.
  121. 5.  Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
  122. 6.  Highlight the 1MB of free space this creates and press Enter.
  123. 7.  Select Install Boot Manager and press Enter.
  124. 8.  Select at the beginning of free space and press Enter.
  125. 9.  Press Enter.
  126. 10. Select Set Startup values and press Enter.
  127. 11. Leave the default blank and set default time as you want
  128.     and press Enter.
  129. 12. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  130. 13. Select Save and Exit and Press Enter.
