  3.         TITLE: 940112 OS/2 FOR WINDOWS (FERENGI) SVGA DRIVER
  4.                  INSTALLATION DSPINSTL NOT BE USED FOR CHANGING 
  5.                  RESOLUTIONS
  6.  
  7.         DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
  8.  
  9.         1.  Under OS/2 2.1 for Windows an error was generated running
  10.             DSPINSTL when trying to select the monitor, the chipset
  11.             or the resolution (i.e. from 640x480xx256 to 1024x768x256), and
  12.             the system crashes. THIS PROCEDURE SHOULDN'T BE REPEATED.
  13.  
  14.         2.  SVGA driver installation did not complete.
  15.  
  16.         SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
  17.  
  18.         1.  Generate SVGADATA.PMI file from DOS full screen by typing
  19.  
  20.         SVGA ON.
  21.  
  22.         2.  Close all sessions and applications, especially those
  23.         with Command Prompts. This ensures that there will be no
  24.         interference with driver installation if a driver file or
  25.         DLL is in use, because they become write protected during
  26.         the install process.
  27.  
  28.         3.  Follow Details of Resolution precisely.
  29.  
  30.         DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
  31.  
  32.         1.  Double-click on OS/2 System, System Setup, then Selective
  33.             Install.
  34.  
  35.          2.  At System Configuration screen, check Primary Display
  36.             (even if at an SVGA resolution), then click on OK button.
  37.  
  38.         3.  At Primary Video Adapter screen, verify that SVGA has
  39.             been selected, then click on OK button.
  40.  
  41.         4.  At OS/2 Setup and Installation screen, make no
  42.             selections but click on Install button.
  43.  
  44.          5. At the next screen where prompted for Source Directory,
  45.             indicate A:\ unless it needs to be the drive for the CD-ROM or
  46.             the drivers are loaded in another directory on the
  47.             harddrive, in  which cases, change to the correct drive and 
  48.             path where the drivers are stored.
  49.  
  50.         6.  Click on Install.
  51.  
  52.         7.  When prompted, insert diskettes (normally starting with
  53.             Disk 6 from OS/2 Installation through Disk 11. This varies with
  54.             the size of diskettes being used).
  55.  
  56.         8.  With OS/2 system files updated, select Install using
  57.             Default for Monitor. Then click on OK.

  66.          9.  The screen should darken and ask for for Video
  67.             Resolution to be selected.
  68.  
  69.         10. Highlight desired resolution, then click on OK.
  70.  
  71.         11. When prompted for Source Directory, it should be A:\
  72.  
  73.         12. Load Display Driver disk 1 in A: drive, then click on
  74.             Install.
  75.  
  76.         13. Installation will include Display Driver diskettes 1 &
  77.             2, then will prompt for Windows drivers diskettes (out of 6, 
  78.             the system will prompt for the appropriate ones for the
  79.             resolution selected).
  80.  
  81.         14. After completing the installation, the system will
  82.             prompt to shut down and reboot. DO NOT PERFORM SHUTDOWN at 
  83.             this time.
  84.  
  85.         15. Click on OK.
  86.  
  87.         16. Go into DOS full screen, change to OS2 directory by
  88.             typing: CD OS2 then hit <Enter>.
  89.  
  90.         17. Type: SVGA ON then hit <Enter>.
  91.  
  92.         18. Type: EXIT then hit <Enter>.
  93.  
  94.         19. Perform Shutdown and Reboot.
  95.  
  96.         Special Notes about installation of High-resolution drivers.
  97.  
  98.         Different monitors and video cards affect the successful
  99.         loading of drivers. Some configurations may require use of utility
  100.         diskettes supplied by the video card manufacturer to ensure setup of
  101.         correct refresh rates.
  102.  
  103.         Following is a partial listing of video cards and the
  104.         utilities that apply to them. These are all DOS-based and must be run from
  105.         full screen session prior to loading the SVGA drivers. Some
  106.         require a line to be added to the autoexec.bat to execute properly.
  107.  
  108.         Questions regarding these utilities should be addressed to
  109.         the respective technical support representatives.
