  23. Note:  These drivers can be found on diskette #8 in a file
  24. called DASDDRVS.  The above drivers can be unpacked with
  25. the following command:
  26.         UNPACK A: DASDDRVS  OS2 /N:xxxxxxxx.ADD
  27.  
  28. Add the following statement in the CONFIG.SYS:
  29.         BASEDEV=xxxxxxxx.ADD
  30.  
  31. Once these steps are taken, reboot the machine to initiate
  32. the appropriate support.

  37. Following are a number of notes about usage, and
  38. about potential compatibility problems with the
  39. microcode levels on various adapters and devices.
  40.  
  41.  Adapter:  All Adaptec adapters
  42.  Note:     SCSI hard disks must be configured as SCSI target
  43.            ID 0 or 1 to be able to start up from that hard
  44.            disk.
  45.  
  46.  Drive:    IBM 0661 - 320MB SCSI
  47.  Note:     Adapter BIOS will not recognize the drive as
  48.            Target 0 or 1 (Drives 80, 81).  For OS/2 2.0, the
  49.            drive can be used as a non-startup drive.
  50.  
  51.  Adapter:  Adaptec AHA-174x
  52.  Drive:    IBM WDS-3180 - 80MB SCSI, IBM WDS-3160
  53.            - 160MB SCSI
  54.  Note:     Adapter will not recognize these drives when
  55.            configured in 'STANDARD MODE' (AHA-154x
  56.            emulation).  Instead, the AHA-174x adapter should
  57.            be configured in 'ENHANCED MODE'. This mode is
  58.            supported by the OS/2 2.0 drivers, and the
  59.            problem does not occur when the adapter is
  60.            operating in enhanced mode.

  62.  Adapter:  Future Domain TMC-850/860/875/885 w/BIOS revision
  63.            level 7.0.
  64.            Future Domain TMC-1660/1670/1680 w/BIOS revision
  65.            level 2.0.
  66.  System:   IBM Models 35 and 40 when the Future Domain
  67.            adapter is controlling the startup diskette.
  68.  Note:     Will produce the message, "Disk read error has
  69.            occurred" when you attempt to start the
  70.            Installation diskette.
  71.            Contact Future Domain for a free BIOS upgrade.

  73. AMI SCSI Adapters
  74.  
  75.  Symptom:
  76.          AMI "Fast Disk" and AMI "Fast Disk II" SCSI
  77.          adapters are incorrectly recognized as Adaptec
  78.          adapters.
  79.  Problem:
  80.          At the final restart after the installation is
  81.          complete, delete from the CONFIG.SYS file, any
  82.          line with "BASEDEV=AHA1xxx.ADD" (where "x" can
  83.          be any character). Ensure the line,
  84.          "BASEDEV=IBMINT13.I13," appears in the CONFIG.SYS
  85.          file.

  87.  
  88. Problems with Always IN2000 SCSI adapter
  89.  
  90.          Internal Processing Error.
  91.          Symptoms of the problem are varied, but the most
  92.          common is an FDISK error on the second diskette.
  93.  Problem:
  94.          Bios adapter with bad bios.  Bios level of 3.06A
  95.          or 3.20 should be upgraded.  The current BIOS level
  96.          is VCN:1-02 and works with OS/2 v2.0.
  97.  Resolution:
  98.          Upgrade to current BIOS level of VCN:1-02.  Also,
  99.          Always IN 2000 SCSI Host Adapters may require an
  100.          EPROM upgrade from Always for $20 to operate with
  101.        V2.0. The revision level should be 2.5-2.7.
  102.          Always suggests installing the EPROMS and
  103.          re-formatting the drive - seem to be some problems
  104.          installing over DOS partitions.  Always can be
  105.          reached at 818-597-9595.

  107.  Bernoulli Boxes
  108.  
  109.  Notes:
  110.         44 and 89MB drives will work if connected to any
  111.         other SCSI card other than Bernoulli's own card.
  112.         The drive will work as a large diskette and will be
  113.         non-bootable.
  114.  
  115.  PROCOMM+ SCSI MCA adapters do not work
  116.  
  117.  Resolution:
  118.          Contact PROCOMM for details on OS/2 support.
  119.  
  120.  Slow SCSI support or missing icons
  121.  
  122.  Symptom:
  123.          Slow hard drive speeds and possibly no icons
  124.          appearing.  Other data corruption possible.
  125.  Problem:
  126.          Hard drive and adapter card settings not
  127.          correctly matched.
  128.  Resolution:
  129.          Ensure that hard drive and card are matched in
  130.          their settings of SYNCH and ASYNCH mode.
  131.  
  132.  IBM 16-bit SCSI cards(early versions)
  133.  
  134.          Early versions of the IBM 16-bit SCSI adapters
  135.          may experience problems and report erroneously that
  136.          the device is not functioning.
  137.  Resolution:
  138.          Replace SCSI card with a card with updated microcode.
  139.  
  140.  Quantam Plus Hardcard
  141.  
  142.  Symptom:
  143.          Numerous failures under 1.3 and 2.0.
  144.  Problem:
  145.          Microcode lower than 2.6 will cause numerous
  146.          failures under 2.0.  Also, drive cannot be second
  147.          disk if installation will take place on the hard
  148.          card drive.
  149.  Resolution:
  150.          Call Quantum about EPROM upgrades.
  151.  
  152. Other SCSI hints
  153. ----------------
  154. Some SCSI card have jumper pins which can be set to either
  155. Synchronous or Asynchronous mode. There have been noted
  156. problems such as no icons appearing or slow hard disk
  157. performance. This can be attributed to the SCSI card and
  158. hard disk not being set to the same asynch or synch
  159. settings. Either way, they must match. Be sure these are set
  160. properly.

  162. The early versions of the IBM 16-bit SCSI adapters may
  163. experience problems and report erroneously that the device
  164. is not functioning.  This can be corrected by replacing the
  165. SCSI card with a card with updated microcode.
